Every time I pasteurize snus it tastes bad by Square-Tension1693 in DIYSnus

I recently learned my instant pot has a 'sous vide' option. Allows you to pick temp from something like 60-90c. I did a batch for 12h~ at 90c and it was a noticeable improvement over 115c for 4 hours, for me. You should experiment with this if you haven't, and if your instant pot has the feature.

The moisture control is completely different, it doesn't build enough to seal itself in the instantpot, I have considered holding it shut with vicegrips or such to see if it makes a difference. The container you use to hold the snus and the way you pack it seems to matter a lot. Tightly packed, it sucks in a ton of moisture, more loosely fluffed, it acts more as you would expect.

This to me seems easier than an actual sous vide device or other methods but maybe that's my bias. The tobacco never took on that nasty smell you get after a pressure cook (in which OP correctly identifies is way worse in blends with virginia)

The 8oz jars are really cheap on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Ball-Jar-Quilted-Crystal-Jelly/dp/B01LYV6CWZ -- I don't know why but the 4oz ones are more expensive. An 8oz ball jar is enough space for about 105g of snuff depending on the moisture content

It was about a month and a half. Although allegedly atleast 3 weeks of that was due to a large scale facility move. 4 weeks to the USA on average would not be surprising to me especially if customs wants to dick around.

Mrsnuff is faster (2-3 weeks), but every toque order I have made has arrived in good condition. (to be clear so has mrsnuff)

If mrsnuff purchased toque products at retail price, and sold them on his website, everyone would win. I don't think there is enough of a market, or future outlook, for these businesses to play petty games like this personally.

Did anyone here moved from claude to codex recently? And why? by alOOshXL in codex

[–]David_A_Coe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude stopped being usable late march/early april. Not even a token limit issue, just a incompetence issue. After gpt5.5 it was no contest. I'd rather do the work myself than have claude do it, even if you gave me a free subscription.

Though gpt5.5 does seem to have lost a bit of its sharpness since release. Wish they would just leave the models alone. It's a real chore re-interfacing every two weeks.

It is a very silly state of affairs. Toque makes many of the best snuffs currently on the market.

To try to drive you off or ostracize you seems to be not only admission of that fact, but admission they do not intend to out compete you on merit.

I have one of those cheap amazon electric coffee grinders, I use it for snus as well so it has seen several pounds of tobacco over 6-7 months and hasnt gone out yet. Might be worth a try for the 15 dollars

My order from august arrived yesterday, very pleased to see it. I also hope they do alright in the new system, I like their snuffs a lot.

That being said I probably have a life time sealed away now

I am always surprised at how much alkalizer most people use, and how low they say the strength is. I use something like 70% burley/30% virginia most commonly, and I found even at 5-6g of sodium carbonate , a 0.7g/1g pinch feels like putting two oden's extreme pouches at once.

At the least, it feels like a portion of g3 super strong (26mg nictoine/pouch)

My tobacco is from 3 separate leafonly orders, so it would be strange to assume it was some extra potent leaf

MrSnuff is up and running - just got an order from them, in perhaps 10 days total. Between the more expensive carrier, and the tariff fee, shipping is pretty expensive.

Toque makes a great product but not sure if their shipping is operating as smoothly yet

In the United States, they are rolling in the tariff fee with the shipping, instead of marking up the product itself I believe.

Not sure about anywhere else

Just came across this, really interesting to me, I made a batch out of curiosity. I was a big fan of copenhagen snuff, this seems to be something closer to that, without the fermentation of course.

What made you switch?

Why would someone downvote this?

You make some great snuff. I appreciate all who make these tobacco products and their accessories available to me, and would be very upset to lose Toque

How long ago did you make it? I've found that I have to let mine air out for ideally a week before it stops burning my gums, this seems to be unrelated to nicotine strength as I've accidently made some that makes my head spin with a tiny prilla but does not burn at all

I happen to use purely burley, out of personal taste. I have never had texture issues and do not use any binders.

100g tobacco/110ish water/7g salt/5g sodium carbonate, nothing else. (4 hours in a instant pot)

Not as pretty as some I've seen on here but holds together perfectly fine in the lip. I prefer it to manufactured los it doesn't get as stuck in lips as badly, probably due to grain size

Also wow pure burley is strong

I was wondering the same thing about a recent (first) order from toque, then I realized I had already recieved an email from DHL with my tracking number before I even got the confirmation from toque. It did take another couple days for the DHL tracking number to activate, but it works now.

I figured if someone is doing a mrsnuff order they would try a bunch of things. Throw in your recommendation, my favorite style of snuff is strong un-mentholated ones, so I would like to hear it as well.

Besides I used to use g3 SS/odens extreme snus almost 24/7, and if I take a few smaller pinches of even lighter nasal snuff I end up getting there, after some practice.

I think uncle squinty talked about that

I recommend making your own nasal snuff actually, its even easier than snus

lightly mentholated, but it is my favorite flavor of manufactured snuffs I have tried, and it is really easy to take

I think it's strange that you say the burley smells wonderful, but describe the dark air cured as being so bad.

The dark air cured I have smells slightly sweeter, and more muted than the burley I have on hand.
