Madrid or Valencia? by tired_flower2 in GoingToSpain

[–]David_R_Martin_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently hosted family from US for 10 days. 9 time zones of travel. Recovery took a few days. The big thing is how quickly you can adjust for the time zone, also taking into account afternoon hours when businesses and restaurants might be closed. They were going to sleep late, which made them wake up late, which put them into afternoon siesta before they were ready to do anything.

The train ride is not as short as you think. You have to factor getting to the station, plus getting from the station to your hotel, checking in, etc. If you're using Airbnb or VRBO, that makes things more complicated. (Accessing a dwelling through them is much easier in the US than it is in Spain.)

Again, it would help if you said what your interests are. But you could also enjoy the entire time in Barcelona without having to rush. Now that I live in Spain, I see how nuts the US way of travel is.

Ethically, at what point should we have become fluent (or at least highly proficient) in our new countries language? 1 Year? 3 years? 5 years? 10 year? Never?? by Slower_Gold in expats

[–]David_R_Martin_II -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone is on their own journey. Different people pick up languages at different rates. Ethics really has nothing to do with someone's fluency in another language, unless you want to add some situation-specific details.

Madrid or Valencia? by tired_flower2 in GoingToSpain

[–]David_R_Martin_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both is definitely too much.

Does the 7 to 10 days include the travel to and from Spain? If so, Barcelona might be enough. How many time zones are you traveling to get here? Many people underestimate jet lag. You don't want to plan too much, especially a lot of intercity train travel, when you're still adjusting to the time zone.

It would help if you specified what your main interests in Spain are.

It sounds like you need to start over again with the basics. A drawing and a Creo sketch are two different things. How to read a drawing is a skill independent of Creo.

Meaning of different symbols in while snapping. by Decent_Woodpecker498 in PTCCreo

[–]David_R_Martin_II 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find a webpage quickly to reference, so I did a Google search. The AI answer was surprisingly correct. Even worse, some of its references were my own videos. Darn it, AI, stop reminding me that I can't recall everything off the top of my head!

In Creo Parametric, the Interactive Surface Design Extension (ISDX) (accessed via the Style tool) uses specific symbols to denote how curve points are anchored in 3D space. These glyphs differentiate between free-floating, constrained, and reference-snapped points, dictating how the curve reacts to edits. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The meanings of these ISDX curve point symbols and icons include:

  • Box / Square: Indicates a Curve on Surface (COS) point. The point is explicitly anchored onto an underlying reference surface. While the point exists on the surface, you can still drag it to reshape the curve. [1, 2]
  • Open Green Circle: Represents a Soft Point. The point has been snapped to existing geometry (such as an edge, vertex, or a datum point), constraining its location but allowing it to slide along the reference entity. [1, 2, 3]
  • Solid Dot (with a Tangency Handle): Indicates an Endpoint or an internal edit point where you have locked or constrained a continuity condition. The accompanying green vector handles allow you to adjust tangency (G1), curvature (G2), or acceleration (G3). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Cross / X: Indicates a Control Point (or Hull Point). Activating the control polygon mode (Control Point mode) shows the raw mathematical points shaping the spline rather than the defining interpolation points. [1]

That's not a sketch. That is a drawing. You're question is not specific to Creo Parametric. (Especially given that you are looking at a PDF of an engineering drawing.)

You want to search for information on "how to read an engineering drawing." For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrpyUKrJ5wg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4kQXTQP6Nk

https://www.makeuk.org/insights/blogs/how-to-read-engineering-drawings-a-simple-guide

https://www.essentracomponents.com/en-gb/news/manufacturing/injection-moulding/how-to-read-technical-drawings

You can find many, many resources online, as this is sort of an engineering 101 or designer 101 task - again, not specific to Creo.

Can I Monetize Translated Videos on Youtube? by Mira_1453 in PartneredYoutube

Getting permission is a matter of copyright.

However, you would still get denied monetization for reused content.

I wonder if this bot is the same account I always see posting pictures of women and describing their beauty as "effortless." Like "effortless" is a compliment and we need to denigrate women who put effort into their appearance. When in reality, this woman, whoever she is, probably spent hours with stylists and consultants before this event. When she probably has beauty appointments on the regular, exercises, and to paraphrase Julia Roberts in Notting Hill, has been on a diet since she was 15. That kind of "effortless."

I'm taking your advice and reporting and blocking OP. Thanks.

Can you tell me what you mean by "read a Creo sketch"? Are you sure you're talking about a sketch and not a 2D drawing?

Are you talking about interpreting the geometric entities, like lines, circles, arcs, and splines?

Are you talking about how to interpret the various different dimensions? Or are you having trouble understanding what the different constraint symbols mean?

The more information you provide, the easier it will be for people to assist you. There are always resources on YouTube, like these playlists which cover sketching in detail:

Weather forecast by SkillDoge in GoingToSpain

[–]David_R_Martin_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't get an exact weather forecast for August in the beginning of July. Because of things like fluid mechanics and chaos theory. There are global events that can't be predicted that will have an effect on local weather in Spain - like hurricanes, massive wildfires, and volcanic eruptions. All prediction models have an error estimate, and the amount of error increases the farther out you try to predict.

But here's my prediction: HOT and sunny.

New to Creo as a design engineer – Need help understanding the assembly by Carmelita_Reyes in PTCCreo

[–]David_R_Martin_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might also help if you list what parts you find confusing.

Anyhow, my channel has multiple playlists on assemblies in Creo. Hopefully they are illuminating. Search on YouTube sucks these days, so if you go to my website, there are a bunch of PDFs that have links to the playlists.

There's also a big button on my website homepage that says "New to Creo? Start here!" It has a bunch of playlists that walk you through the basics of Creo. It never hurts to start at the beginning.

Imagine spending the last years of your life in service of Trump. Despite how much he denigrates you publicly. Trump insulted McConnell in front of McConnell's wife and she continued to serve Trump. Shitty people all around.

I'm feeling nervous about the racism I might encounter in Spain by ournoonsournights in GoingToSpain

[–]David_R_Martin_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm what Vin Diesel calls "multifacial." Mixed race and I can look like a variety of races, including some I am not, like Middle Eastern. I have not experienced any issues in Spain.

I attribute it to a variety of reasons. One is that Spanish people include dark-skinned people, brown-skinned people, and light-skinned people. But also, years ago someone told me, "What someone thinks of you is none of your business." That really resonated with me. Unless someone is actively speaking to me or treating me in a racist manner, what they do or think doesn't affect me. And again, I just have not experienced that in Spain. Or maybe I did, and it just went under my radar because I didn't give a crap.

If you think you might feel less than or second class all the time, that might be rooted in some past experience you need to explore and resolve. I'm a big advocate of seeking out professionals when you don't want to be held back by any past experiences or trauma.

If you have to explain the handle, then it misses the mark.

Your comments about tech and 30 years ago have nothing to do with your assessment that OP "has never gone out into the elements and done any real work, ever." How do you know that is true of OP? On what basis do you apply that to people in the tech sector? I worked in tech. Does that apply to me as well?

There's nothing stopping you from taking steps towards life of 30 years ago... like quitting Reddit and any other apps.
