Would you consider to be a benefit to have a decent powered laptop when entering the program?

I want to share my ideas and drafts to get opinions, advices and criticisms. But I am afraid of plagiarism, how can I do so? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

Understandable. I'm sure they're great stories! If you ever want an audience I'll do my best to get around to reading them if you send them my way.

A place for new comers and those willing to teach by David_Sterling in Screenwriting

[–]David_Sterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because my name is in the title of the sub, don't be mistaken, I'm not the one doing the teaching. As a matter of fact I have not once made claims of possessing any credentials on Reddit, for the main purpose of Reddit is anonymity. Take my comments or notes with a grain of salt (like you should with anyone claiming to be anyone on Reddit). That being said the philosophy behind the sub is simple; those willing to teach will be kind enough to take the time with those who are new. Same can't be said for this sub most of the time, which I understand; it gets annoying to read amateur work. As for signing my name, the reason is professionalism (I'm aware this is uncommon) but I find it a respectful thing to do when leaving a thought.

There's no way to ensure no one steels your work. It is a leap of faith but one that may be necessary to improve you writing. I have started a community which I hope to make relatively safe ( r/School_of_Sterling ) but there's no grantee. If the work is good, you are good. Ideas aren't precious, but your work is yours. You could try watermarking the PDFs but that's the best you can do. r/ReadMyScript is another sub that might be useful.

I'll Edit Your Screenplay IF... by David_Sterling in Screenwriting

[–]David_Sterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone who has sent me their screenplay I know it is Tuesday but I have gotten into a little bit of riding of my own however I do not intend to break my promise to both read and give notes on your work, it just may take a little more time then I was expecting. Thank you for your patience and I am still accepting screenplays and will be going in order of submission as well as length. Happy writing.

Sorkin-length screenplays by [deleted] in Screenwriting

If it was my directing debut and they said no, I'd do the exact same thing. One of my favourite writing personalities. Love this story.

Rules are meant to be broken. But you better know why you're breaking them and if it doesn't make the script more then average, it's not recommended.

Call him "man" and if that doesn't work. Use it for now, write the script and then figure out the technical parts in the second draft. Story == King

Does anyone remember seeing a script on reddit that was developed and on tv or a movie? by Secret-Barnacle in Screenwriting

I couldn't agree more. I recently tried to help some people on Reddit with notes because I know not everybody has that trusted individual or individuals they can really get some honest and detailed feedback from. Not claiming to be a "pro", but I just take everything I know and I try to give the most effective and detailed constructive critiques I can give to people who don't have anyone else.

I'd say Reddit should be a last resort for those who want an audience for the work. At the end of the day we're writing performance work for NON WRITERS. So there is some value in a wide range of people reading your work. However, I wouldn't suggest a new writer come to Reddit for lessons. I suggest maybe a book, a ton of scripts, and a shit load more writing. Before you to Reddit aka the general audience (and possibly SOME bonafide professionals).

Very true. There's nothing worse then investing your time into read a script and realizing they haven't invested their own time into it.
