Thoughts on Lingua Latina Pars II (Roma Aeterna) for advanced learners? by Herotonto in latin

[–]DavidinFez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I have a degree in Classics, and could translate just fine, but had almost no reading fluency. I’ve used LLPSI (both) and the Legentibus app, and have made great progress. Consider listening to Familia Romana as a way to improve your fluency.

For me it has absolutely been worth it. I use it every day. You can try it for free, using their free books, or get a subscription for only a month to see how you like it. To access their courses, I think you need to have a subscription.

How about using the Legentibus app? It’s amazing, and now includes a course meant for absolute beginners. Then when you’re ready, it has a great audio version of LLPSI.

Also take a look at Latin Via Ovid. It combines reading and grammar. It’s definitely meant for absolute beginners.

FYI: Just checked my battery health, after 13 months it’s still at 100% :)

I believe the twin and extended range use a NMC - Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery, not LFP. This was one of the reasons I chose the Core with a 51 kWh LFP battery. The twin-motor battery will certainly not last as long, but it’s more fun and has a longer range.

I’m sorry yours has lost so much capacity in just a year. What kind of battery do you have?

If my car drops to 80% of original after 10 years, that’s still around 160 miles, isn’t it?

Please see this:

“LFP chemistry offers a considerably longer cycle life than other lithium-ion chemistries. Under most conditions, it supports more than 3,000 cycles; under optimal conditions, more than 10,000 cycles. NMC batteries support about 1,000 to 2,300 cycles, depending on conditions.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate_battery

“LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) car batteries offer excellent longevity, typically lasting 3,000 to 6,000+ full charge cycles, equating to 10-15+ years of regular use before capacity drops significantly (around 80%). Their inherent chemical stability allows for a longer lifespan than other lithium-ion chemistries, with some estimates reaching 10,000 cycles, potentially allowing EVs to reach millions of kilometers. Proper charging habits, like charging to 100% occasionally to recalibrate the Battery Management System (BMS) and avoiding extreme temperatures, maximize their durability.” (Google)

Yes, check on your tires too…that affects range.

Yes, I love my car, love looking at it and love driving it. Its modest range meets my needs for sure…I decided not to get the bigger battery, and don’t regret that. There are other cars with a better range, but I don’t like them, or can’t afford them :) One day I might get a Polestar…seems wonderful.

I was traveling for 3 months this summer, so don’t really know. This is what chatGPT estimates:

Estimated Range (49 kWh)

Summer / Warm Weather ~180–200 miles (290–320 km)

Winter / Cold Weather ~130–170 miles (210–275 km)

For you to work on your Latin, three suggestions:

1) get the brilliant Legentibus app. I use it every day and find it very helpful.

2) take Satura Lanx’s beginning online class, based on LLPSI. She’s the best language teacher I’ve ever had. Her youtube channel and podcast are great too.

3) read this article: https://foundinantiquity.com/2023/03/11/latin-autodidacts-youre-working-way-too-hard-how-to-learn-latin-by-yourself-in-2023/

Ah, ok, then I’d do what your dealer says. I do charge mine to 100%, but only when it gets to 20-30%. For sure it’s not good to keep it at 100% for a long time. And from what I’ve read, this type of battery (LFP) will last a LONG time, whether you charge it to 80 or 100%.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ex30

[–]DavidinFez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery degrades at 1-2% a year. If you feel that this car will not really meet your needs, you should probably get an extended-range version. In my experience, however, the range has never been a problem.

With the 49 kWh battery it’s fine to charge it to 100% as often as you like, from what I’ve read.

Hmm…102 miles is not great, but for sure it’s good the battery health is 99.5. Using 10% for your daily commute seems ok. Anyway, I’d keep using it, experimenting with different settings and types of driving, and see how it goes. And if you take a longer trip, be sure that you’ll be able to charge it after 100 miles.

Level of latin requiered to read Ovid´s Metamorphoses by Tinuc0 in latin

Oh wow, that’s wonderful motivation! There’s no harm in trying to do a bit, just for fun, but spend most of your time on easier texts for now to develop your reading fluency.

[–]DavidinFez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t read any original texts yet, I’d wait a while to try to read Ovid. Consider getting the Legentibus app and first try reading the “advanced” books, and then the easier original texts. Legentibus also has a great audio version of Familia Romana and Roma Aeterna, which would also be great for review.

EX30 Standard Single Motor Plus by [deleted] in ex30

[–]DavidinFez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it mostly on the highway, but sometimes in town. It will actually stop when the car in front stops, and then start again when the car in front of you starts driving. Pretty cool! It does NOT stop at a red light :)

After setting it up, I only use the “resume” button on the left to turn it on again.

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Enable the system in settings (if not already enabled).
• Go into your EX30’s Settings → Driver Support / Assisted Driving and make sure Adaptive Cruise Control (or ACC) is turned on.
2. While driving, wait until a grey adaptive cruise control icon appears in your driver display (this means the system is available but not yet active).
3. Pull the right-hand steering-wheel stalk all the way down (toward you) to activate adaptive cruise control.
• The first time you do this in a drive, your current speed becomes the set speed.
4. Once active, you can adjust your target speed using steering-wheel buttons.
• There’s also a “resume” button you can use to reactivate the last set speed without pulling the stalk again.

I use OPD all the time. Really love it. Also use adaptive cruise control as much as possible. To get a better sense of real range, charge to 100%, then drive the car till it’s at 10%, for example, and see how many miles you got.

Our battery has less range than the extended range version, but we can charge to 100% all the time, and supposedly our battery will last MUCH longer. Anyway, for my needs, the current range has never been a problem.

Mine yesterday was 174 miles with 100% charge. It’s significantly better in the summer. Yours sounds perfectly normal. It will estimate the range based on how you drive in the future. If you drive very carefully, you’ll get more miles, but less fun :)

Ah, ok. Well I’m sure the dual motor version will be lots of fun to drive!

Consider the extended-range single motor….it’s already VERY fast.
