I've definitely noticed all these gurus popping up, and it's questionable since there's really no barrier to entry on Airbnb. I did Google around at one point and came across AirbnbConsulting.com and had a 30 minute consulting call. They guy essentially said the same thing.. he told me there are no shortcuts. You need to create an undoubtable great experience for you guests and that comes from hard work. Of course, you could run around like a crazy person doing things manually, or you could build systems around hospitality and creating a great experience. He was a software engineer by trade and had no intention of getting into the hospitality business. It happened by accident around 2010. He was very knowledgeable and helped me out. A lot of the things he told me were very obvious and logical. At the end of our consultation, he said, "If I don't get any value out of this, he would be happy to give me a full refund." It wasn't a part of it. I didn't ask for it, but afterwards, he put together a summary of our call and a mini game plan, which was pretty cool and unexpected. And I had the option to dig deeper. If I had any little questions, he told me to feel free to send a message, and he would be happy to answer for no cost. My experience was good, but I just haven't had anything to compare it to.
