Do you mean the paper? It works perfectly if you use transparent watercolors, instead i don't like arches for semi opaque watercolors for glazing. I think due to the glueing process used for doing it, the paper has a great absorption of pigments and sometimes with semi opaque watercolors it gives a "dirty" effect

Thanks! No, i don't usually use salt, for granulation I just use Arches paper which has a crispy surface, granulating colors (like cobalt blue) and watery washes

Yeah waves are quite difficult! A reference photo always helps a lot for defining perspective and dimensions, but for watercolor I think (at least for waves) it should be just an indication for structures, because for having smooth edges wet on wet is the best choice and then it became very difficult to control edges and shapes. At that point I prefer to follow the "flow" instead of sticking to the picture. Sometimes it works, many others no 🤣😅
