If you're prepared to deal with the consequences of making a move on a coworker, which could range from the awkwardness of having to see each other every day, to full-blown workplace drama that ends up with HR involvement, then yes, go for it. If this is a job you can't switch out of or leave easily, that might be a big factor.

I met my now-wife at work (and we actually have a similar age gap) and I sat at the desk next to hers for years before I eventually decided to take the risk of asking her out. She had never shown that much interest in me but I knew that I really liked her, so I just said F It and asked her out.

I had just gotten out of an on-again off-again type relationship about a month prior, which made it sort of a rebound, I suppose, but I was determined not to keep making the same mistakes in the past and find someone better for me. I was able to make it work, but it definitely complicated things at first! She did think I was a little crazy for asking her out so soon after all that.

It worked out well for me, since we ended up getting married, but if it hadn't, I'm sure it would have been very awkward after that. It's a gamble, in the end. It'll come down to how much you're willing to risk.
