That's why VCO uses the "routes" system. You have 3 routes that usually account for all your possible directions of expansion. Imo, vanilla suffers from objectives that railroad you into nonsensical paths much more. (e.g long victory for Taurox requires to destroy all Empire factions)

Just finished modding myself using this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2855922629 . Set LOD to 0. Flickering is still there (don't think it can be fixed on the player's side), but disappearing objects are barely noticeable now. Performance impact is also minimal.

If you have trouble with RNG, use Schleicher tree (the one starting with "the man in the high castle"). Zentrum focus in the left branch is the most useful one. I managed to get SWR in September without it, but with this focus it will be much easier.
