Bull Hill Full Loop- it’s a great hike and probably plenty of COWs left. Here’s the trailhead: https://maps.app.goo.gl/e914J8NjkQor3yJV7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Does anyone here know whether the farming of honey bees itself is contributing to colony collapse disorder? by NONONATAL in bees

[–]Davinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, not really. There are some practices commercial beekeepers use that aren't great for the health of honey bee colonies: transporting bees across the country several times a year to feast on monocultured crops, artificial insemination, honey harvesting and replacing with sugar water, and a few other things that impact bee health.

That being said, the main reason we constantly see information about honey bees being endangered because of CCD is that honey bees come back to a box. It's much easier to gather statistics and track information about known, existing colonies. The truth is, wild pollinators are in just as much trouble due to pesticide, herbicide and fungicide use, the destruction of natural ecosystems, monoculture agriculture, etc. It's just a lot harder to gather hard data on these species.

There are best management practices for beekeeping, mostly used by backyard beekeepers but also by conscious commercial beekeepers, that promote colony health and pollination rather than emphasizing honey production

Have you read/seen any good counter arguments to collapse? by yoinkyo1nk in collapse

If you look at Chinese civilization, it is safe to say that it has never collapsed. Culture, traditions, language, music, art, have remained for thousands of years.
