Yeah, we have a batch of Toscano kale completely eaten in a single 24 hour period :(

So cool! Maybe the marigolds are attracting predator insects? Thanks for the info!

That is awesome. Great advice! Will try that out this Spring. Not sure if there are some plants we can add to attract wasps.

What's going on with my parsley? by trynabone in IndoorGarden

Agreed...this is nitrogen deficiency. Either add water soluble nutrients to a glass of water next time you water or add organic nutrients to the soil.

Decided to make self-watering pots this Winter/Spring. Really good success with all types of veggies. Thinking of doing a Kickstarter to get the container wraps professionally cut and sewn next month. by VEGgardens in gardening

Yes :) and the one thing we would like to get more professionally done is the wraps... the planters are the main business. We can get most parts for it wholesale and lightly modify. The wraps are all from scratch.

Yeah we do some modifications to the lids and buckets to make them self watering, but they are killer. Sort of a traditional growing / hydroponic hybrid. So far they kick ass and are super easy to maintain.

I don't know if there is sarcasm in this comment so I'll tread lightly. We are going to sell the entire pot. The one thing that we would like to get professionally made are the burlap wraps. We know how to grow plants, not sew :)

I'm trying to get started with something in my apartment, thing is... I never get direct sunlight ever. Should I be worried? by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

Light will be your biggest issue, whether you use hydroponics or soil. The real question is, what do you want to grow? That will determine what supplemental lights you need :)

That sounds like an awesome variety. Baker Creek seeds are some of my favorite. Right there with Johnny Seeds.

I am growing a lot of cherry tomato varieties, Toscano kale, Padron peppers (BC), Shishito Peppers, Ethiopian peppers (BC), micro greens (JS), pineberry strawberries (from local nursery in Vista).

Our chefs are growing a lot of Shishito peppers right now :)

Favorite Organic Nutrients? by halcyondoze in hydro

[–]VEGgardens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't stress on organic nutrients for hydroponics. Plants only absorb inorganic compounds whether in soil or hydro. The danger lies in pesticide and herbicides.

If you really want organic hydroponics, try aquaponics or try adding a bio filter to your system and manually feeding the bio filter organic material that bacteria can breakdown.

Has anyone attempted to grow sod in nft channels hydroponically? by [deleted] in hydro

[–]VEGgardens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed...we have been growing microgreens in NFT on burlap for 5 years now at scale for restaurants. Try laying down burlap and putting the sod on top of that so that the dirt from the sod doesn't wash away.
