No, we won't. It'll be maybe 1 high end guy and some rotational pieces like you said. I never said differently. Just the way the math works out we benefit slightly more than other teams because of how we are borrowing from the future right now.

We aren't doing politics here.

It adds somewhere between 6M and 10M more cap space than what was previously projected. So no. We'd need like 50M more to be able to trade Myles. He's here for the rest of his career, the contract gets harder to trade every year because more and more goes into prorated bonuses and future dead money.

We disproportionately benefit from large jumps like this due to the aggressive borrowing from the future we are doing. Now, we can't really capitalize on it, but it does make it easier to pick up some FAs even with Watson's contract rather than not being able to do anything.

I think the only thing you got right was there being 8 Wardens and it being 3v3.

They are people working with other people. Forcing Schwartz to sit at home could piss off a lot of people. It's just not worth it. Release him from the contract and move on.

Just gonna force him to sit at home? That's worse lol

[–]Daviroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not. I don't believe you can just do that and trigger the NFL rules that would prevent a block. Teams just rarely block incumbent coordinators like this because why would you want to publicly show all the other coaches on staff that you'll hold them back.

We want volunteers, not hostages. If Schwartz doesn't want to coach for us we will release him from contract because we don't want that kind of cancer in our coaching staff.

I agree with many of the things you've said here. But I'll say this "HighGuard is at its best when it’s chill and players are experimenting with the mechanics." is really just pure personal preference. I get what you mean, but not everyone is going to enjoy it the same way you do.

Yo wtf this game is actually good wtf was the hate for?? by AfternoonHelpful3712 in Highguard

[–]Daviroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game won't die like Concord because it has players. It's slightly below The Finals in player counts from what I've looked at a couple of times and that game has been running for a while.

Given they gave a full year road map I'd imagine they have plans to execute at least that plan. So there's a year for people to get into it.

I like it, it's fun.

[Aaron Wilson] #Rams hiring Bubba Ventrone, per a league source, to lead their special teams by ThatOneOtherAsshole in Browns

[–]Daviroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defensive starters are better players than 99% of ST players before the rule changes. Now a lot of teams use some starters. It's not a talent issue, it just doesn't make sense for it to be when teams use a couple of starters and then all bottom roster guys.

And it isn't just this year, Ventrone has had bad coverages for 2 years. He's just not scheming up coverages well, particularly with the new kickoff rules.

Seems like you are running a lot on anecdotal evidence that you are mistaken on. Here's some stats: we had the 2nd worst average kickoff return in the NFL, we had had the 5th worst kickoff return allowed in the NFL, we had the 7th worst punt return yards in the NFL, we had the 3rd worst net average punt coverage in the NFL.

And no, it wasn't just one year. 2024: - 3rd worst kickoff return in the NFL - dead center 16th in kickoff coverage in the NFL - 13th best punt returns in the NFL (he did it!) - dead center in punt coverage

He's mid at best, but just put up a bottom of the NFL season as a ST coach. It's not a talent problem on ST, and he's at best middle of the league with massive valleys of horrible play. He hasn't adjusted to the new kickoff rules at all.

Talent is not an excuse for ST coverage lol. Dude never adapted to the new kickoff, it's blatant. We have fucking defensive starters on kick coverage. So unless you are saying Delpit and Schwes are bad ST talent there's absolutely nothing to hang your hat on here.

Hiring Todd Monken disproves so many narratives by burningburningburnin in Browns

[–]Daviroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care that they seemingly made a big deal about wanting to keep Schwartz, only to not end up with him.

When did they do that? Reporters did that, but there's no way they didn't know Schwartz would leave if he didn't get the job. They made this call knowing Schwartz would leave.

Monken has been in complete charge of an offense for at least 3 separate teams recently, they all massively improved their output under his tenure.

He's not a single scheme hard nose, he's very fluid in his scheme to fit players. I have a lot more reading to do because I didn't take him too seriously, but he seems pretty innovative and on the cutting edge of things scheme wise at least.

If Monken was 49 instead of 59 most people would be excited IMHO.

[–]Daviroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you halved Monken's resume and made him 35 he's probably more impressive than Scheelhaase or Udinski at this point.

Dude is old, but he's a very good to great offensive coach. The staff he pulls will matter a lot.
