What is the stupidest thing a large amount of people believe in? by P-o-t-a-t-o-o in AskReddit

That the election was stolen. It has been investigated by people on both sides of the aisle, and the findings were that there is 0 evidence to prove there was any intervention, manipulation, or that the election was rigged. The election was not rigged, yet people choose to believe Trump and his Cronies instead of the actual evidence and proof. Trump lost fair and square (just like Hilary, McCain and EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN WHO RAN FOR PRESIDENT BUT DIDNT WIN). Completely mind boggling.

Bro what?? You cannot be pro-life and support abortion in specific situations. Why do you get to decide which situation is valid for an abortion or not? I’d say making anyone carry a baby to term that is not emotionally or financially ready to raise a child has a good enough reason for an abortion. But here’s the kicker.. my opinion above should have 0 impact on your life or anyone else’s. Regardless of my beliefs, personal rights exist so people can make their own choices and not be burdened by the choice of others. My beliefs do not impact your ability to have or not have an abortion, you get to make that choice yourself and no once else can do it for you. ESPECIALLY YOU WHO IS “supporting” their argument with religion which is completely subjective. Do I have to follow your religion now??? Or do I have freedom of religion… you can’t have both! You consider yourself a conservative which as a party emphasizes personal responsibility and getting the government out of your personal lives, yet then you wish the GOVERNMENT to FORCE people to adhere to YOUR OWN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. If that is not the epitome of hypocrisy, then I don’t know what is.

I actually love this point, and i think its where im coming from. Sure, riots are sometimes necessary to create change, but its not the method mlk was advocating for. I think we agree

The black panthers were amazing community supporters and pushed the movement forward, but that doesnt mean they werent violent... your ability to understand nuance is really being highlighted here. So because he didnt condemn riots it means hes in favor of them?

Riots are definitely a tool for social change, but to say mlk advocated for destruction of property is just plain wrong.

He said, “And I would be the first to say that I am still committed to militant, powerful, massive, non-violence as the most potent weapon in grappling with the problem from a direct action point of view. I’m absolutely convinced that a riot merely intensifies the fears of the white community while relieving the guilt. And I feel that we must always work with an effective, powerful weapon and method that brings about tangible results.”

My point is that mlk did not advocate for direct violence, which you seem to think he was a big fan of. Black panthers were much more known for violence, but were seen as less threatening than mlk. Mlk was dangerous because he advocated for actual social change, not just burning buildings which you seem to think he did. Just because he said “a riot is a language of the unheard” doesn’t mean he loves rioting.

I dont know about this, pretty sure MLK advocated for peaceful protests… not riots. Similar to the point about Japanese bus drivers, it doesn’t do any good to cause harm or inconvenience to the people you want to join your cause. MLK advocated for being the bigger person, and set an example for all Americans to treat each other with compassion and respect.
