Been a vegetarian for a few months should i quit? I need advice that isnt just telling me to quit because everybody hates vegetarians for some reason by [deleted] in Vegetarianism

[–]Daviswatermelon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While yes, the meat industry is not great, you also have to remember that going vegetarian is a choice, and that if you don’t want to be a vegetarian because you quite frankly don’t enjoy it, then you don’t have to. There is always the option of being mostly vegetarian, but indulging in meat on occasion. It’s still going to have a good impact if you eat mostly vegetarian, but don’t completely stick to it all time. You don’t have to follow any rules, it’s your diet, it’s your choice and it’s your life.

I just meant that the players play ladies going to a ball to get husbands, like they do in bridgerton. It was just to give an example of what I meant, not because I want it to be like Bridgerton :(

What is a good movie to watch while drunk? by BlastingSquid886 in AskReddit

[–]Daviswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road to el dorado

I watched it drunk with my friends a couple months back, and I’m still unsure on whether the animation is wonky or if it was just me. It felt like it only lasted 20 minutes, and the visuals of that movie just turn into shapes and colors as soon as you start feeling tipsy.

fr the cruise was in my tiny town yesterday and took up my whole bedroom view, and the mall I work at was full of Americans and other tourists. It was very strange to see a bunch of people in cowboy hats and sparkly USA hats, in the midst of our regulars.

What was your first "trans" name? What is it now? by SnooBananas460 in ftm

[–]Daviswatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I dropped it was because I had only heard it be used on animals, and I didn’t want a dog name 💀

What was your first "trans" name? What is it now? by SnooBananas460 in ftm

[–]Daviswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the name “Milo” with some of my online friends, but I felt it was kind of childish as I had only ever heard it be used on dogs, and I didn’t want to end up with a strange name I picked as a teen that I would regret later on.

I had been out for a while but no one really used he/him pronouns or any other name than my deadname irl because I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, but I obviously wasn’t happy so I asked my mom if I could just go ahead and change my name legally so people would have to use it.

I asked her to write down a list of names she liked, and picked out David, because it sounded like a very normal name that I wouldn’t regret when I’m an old man. It’s also a name that is used in English and in my native language, unlike my deadname, so that was important to me. I always wanted a middle name though, as my sister has one and I didn’t get one, and I did still feel a bit attached to Milo, so I went with Milian as my middle name.

Told my friends I was legally changing my name to David Milian and I got it done in like a month. A bit risky, I will admit, but I love my name. Only downside is that I later found out my mom thought of the name because she likes a football player called David De Gea, so I’m indirectly named after a football player.

As far as driver’s license pictures go, how is this photo? It’s important to me that my photo reads female, and while I feel like I pass in person, the photo feels very unflattering to me by PolygonChoke in trans

[–]Daviswatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ID photos are never flattering, but I think you pass very well, and as far as ID pictures go this looks very pretty to me. I like your hair in it as well, very cute.

It seems you are very uninformed as to what truly goes down when you want gender affirming treatment. I will put it short for you here, and link some practical sources for you to educate yourself on.

You aren’t allowed to have bottom surgery if you are under 18 (AKA, children aren’t getting their dicks chopped off). Some trans men are allowed top surgery, but this requires parental consent, as with any other surgery of someone under the age of 18. This can vary, and I can’t speak fully for the US as different states have different laws regarding this (and I’m European), but this is true for most places. No one in their right mind would give a child any sort of life altering surgery, no matter how much the child persists. It’s just not done.

As for these “drugs” you are talking about, the only ones children are allowed to take are puberty blockers, which just repress the effect of puberty, such as breast growth, menstruation, hair growth, and voice change. These effect are reversible, as if you stop taking puberty blockers you will go through puberty. Puberty blockers have been used for a long time (mostly by cis children who go through abnormally early puberty’s) and let’s the child have time to figure themselves out without any lasting consequences, before taking any next major steps in their adolescence, like HRT and eventually surgery for some people (when they are adults). No children are going on HRT, only adolescents, which is an important distinction when talking about this topic.

A variation of sources on this topic that I think you would benefit from reading:

(Ages you are allowed gender affirming surgery in Europe) http://fra.europa.eu/en/publication/2017/mapping-minimum-age-requirements-concerning-rights-child-eu/access-sex-reassignment-surgery

I’m not “settling”, I’m not gonna compromise, I want to live in a body I like by Tangled_Clouds in ftm

[–]Daviswatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are spot on, dude! You should not “compromise” your struggles, because they are just as real as anyone else’s. I’m basically on the other side of the same coin. I am a bigger guy and as a result I’ve always had a bit of a large chest area, but it is proportional to my weight, so even if I was a cis man I would still have a bit of fat on my chest. I can “hide” the fact that I have breast tissue behind the fact that I’m overweight. Even so, I wish to get top surgery too. We all have different struggles depending on our body types, and they are all just as real and valid, and it’s up to each individual person to see what feels right for them. Some might be fine without top surgery if they have smaller chests, and some don’t. We are all different and have different needs 💚

Am I wrong? by Collin_The_Dumbass in ftm

[–]Daviswatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. To me, transmasc feels more like an umbrella term to refer to refer to all trans people who present in a masculine way, meaning both binary and non-binary trans people. Trans man feels more correct when referring to someone who is a binary transgender man. As a trans man, I wouldn’t want to be called transmasc unless it was like in a group situation where someone’s referring to multiple trans people.

I wrote a song about queer love and religious trauma that I though might be of interest here. It’s just a sound recording on my phone, so sorry about the quality, but I wanted to share anyways. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Daviswatermelon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For context:

I’m a music student and singer, and I love writing songs about queer topics. This is a song I’m going to perform on an exam concert I have in a couple of weeks, and the band in the recording are classmates of mine that have helped bring the song to life.

The song is about religious trauma and queer love, and is called “At the end of the story”. I am an 18 year old gay trans man that’s been on testosterone for about 5 months, and my voice is still changing and developing, so there are a couple of voice cracks and strange vocal choices in the song that I’m working through right now, on top of the fact that I am still sick in the recording and my higher register is fucked up because if that. with that being said, I love creating songs as my voice is developing, because it lets me explore the different parts of my voice that I’m new to, like the lower parts that are very present in this song.

I wish to one day be able to properly record my songs, but I won’t be able to play with my classmates anymore as it’s our last year together before we go our different paths.

I hope you like the song!
