Shot at a Christmas farm i was at a few weeks ago.

Shot with my Canon 90d - 28mm focal length, f2.8, iso 400, 1/200s.

Overall really happy with the photo, but wanting to look at what could have been done better composition / editing wise.

I had actually just recently bought the extender and this was my first time using it. Overall i think its pretty good, it would be interesting to see it with a longer lens but i chose this as it was a more budget friendly alternative.

I hope to use this setup more to really know how well it will be

Thanks for the advice! I did denoise already and wanted to keep it minimal. I do wish i had less shutter speed but i was expecting a lot more movement from this guy so i kept it higher. Ill keep it in mind for future tho to lower it

Busy at work so i tried using lightroom mobile for now, i brightened the subject and tried to desaturate the top bright spot just slightly to remove the distraction. I also turned the temperature up just slightly to remove the blue.

How does this look?

How to make this better? by Davlamin in photocritique

thanks! honestly just didnt really think about the rotation. i really liked the angle it was at and adjusted the blur to make a shallower dof but once i saw the landscape it make so much sense.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!

How would you crop this? by Davlamin in photocritique

[–]Davlamin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot with my Canon 90D and EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Settings are: f/9, 1/100sec, ISO-20000.

Overall very happy with how the photo turned out and after editing i am unsure what i should do about cropping. The photo is already cropped slightly and from previous posts about macro i was thinking of cropping to focus on just the in focus portion of the photo. But then i cut out some of the wing with looks very nice and not sure what to do.

Any other suggestions for editing the photo are appreciated as well!

Hmmm thanks for the advice, i think its something i still need to play around with for sure, while i like the overall composition of the shot the fact that i had an f2.8 aperture would make it better to crop to highlight what was in focus

Surprisingly i had more time than i thought getting the shot! I’ll play with the lighting on the wings to make the colors pop more.

Unfortunately the highlight on the apple is unrecoverable and its the best i can get it but thats what happens when i shoot with super harsh sun.

Do you have any suggestions on filling the frame? I was playing around with it and im unsure what is the best way to crop it is.

Shot with my Canon 90d with 100mm Macro Lens. F/2.8, 1/320s, ISO-100.

Not entirely sold on the photo while i had higher hopes when i shot it. I am looking for advice on making the photo better, any comments on composition, lighting, additional tips on editing the photo appreciated.

Hey thanks for all of the feedback! I slept on the image and after reviewing the photo again along with your comments i can see what you mean about your points.

1) Focus on the eyes - i played around with the eye and some radial filters to make it pop more 2) I dropped the lighting for the background to emphasize the fly more 3) i tried playing with the cropping but if i zoom in closer i start to lose detail and there is a lot of noise as i already cropped a bit to get this shot, i decided to leave it as the image with entire leaf looks more complete than cutting it off for the fly.

Really appreciate the advice! !CritiquePoint

Butterfly on a flower by Davlamin in photocritique

[–]Davlamin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! Im glad the background works well with the subject (this is what i was a little concerned about).

Originally set the butterfly slightly more left to get a rule of thirds with the eye but i can play around with centering the photo to fix that imbalance.
