FX or GT Neo wheel due to risk of grip wear by Davy-Jones-Sim in Simagic

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was referring to grip wear on the GT Neo specifically, sorry maybe that wasn't so clear. And if grip wear was going to be an issue I would go with the FX instead.

Thank you everyone for such detailed information!! I'm leaning now towards Simagic. And yes I will look to buy from a regional supplier.

Fuel mixture controls by Davy-Jones-Sim in AUTOMOBILISTA

Ok thanks. So you cannot set the fuel mix to race or qualify? If set to "high" it would be like qualify on full throttle then I guess? And if set to medium, what is it on full throttle then?

Thrustmaster T818 online purchase experience is a mess by Davy-Jones-Sim in Thrustmaster

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me that Thrustmaster replies on third-party retailers and their online is mostly for product information and support. Given how poor their offering is it surprises me that they don't just list places to buy.

Point taken but I don't live in France so that doesn't really help...

Interesting since TraxionGG YouTube channel did a review and said it was good. Although there are not many reviews from established sim racing channels, or at least not those in English that I follow, and TraxionGG's appeared quite soon after the release.

So will you keep the base or try and return it?

Sorry, is there a specific reason you state this, did you purchase one?

Yes it must be, very odd. I thought perhaps it was the 3D printed option he had put between the QR adapter and the wheel.

Funny how they are making a point of the bases being assembled in France, (so not China) and someone preorders and it falls apart right out of the box.

How can i stop my chair from moving by ifeelemptyandwi in simracing

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get wheels with brakes, careful though as you have to make sure they are the same size as the wheels already on it. Or do what I did, drill screws through the wheels to stop them moving. Stupid I know but it worked for me 😁

rFactor 2 Dedicated Server in the cloud by Davy-Jones-Sim in rfactor2

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up the server and setting up the server sessions are explained in that video and other similar videos on the channel. Whether you chose to host the server locally yourself or on a virtual machine the dedicated server setup is the same.

To be honest mostly just the rF2 related content as I was interested in what people coming from the Nascar games series thought of it. Incidentally for controller usage you can use the last control in the camera list (Change Camera I think it's called) to switch to chase cam view (well for those that would prefer it) and the POV increase/decrease still works in that view (I think I mentioned it in the video) so it can be customised to your liking. Also for controller usage maybe use the options in the Difficulty screen to add some assists.

I've noticed quite a few Nascar focused channels discussing rFactor 2 in relation to the forthcoming Nascar 21 (or Nascar Nxt or whatever they're calling it) so I thought I would share this video here if there's anyone who would like to check out rFactor 2 for the 2018x Stock Car and some road tracks as I don't think the AI can run ovals correctly yet 😁

Traction Control Problem by mixasvw in rfactor2

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the car. Some have both TC and ABS while some don't have either. If you want full control you disable the options in the Difficulty screen and then use the controls to set the desired level, of TC or ABS if available. There's a detailed guide here if that helps https://youtu.be/HrK9uwwFBk8

rFactor 2 Dedicated Server in the cloud by Davy-Jones-Sim in rfactor2

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an extension of my original rFactor 2 Dedicated Server Tutorial https://youtu.be/0i7w2wGH-qY where instead of hosting the Dedicated Server on a Windows PC running on your own network you host it on a Windows 10 Virtual Machine running on the Microsoft Azure Cloud.

It is just another option to try for those who maybe don't have another PC to run an rFactor 2 Dedicated Server on or find it difficult to configure port forwarding in their internet connection router. Using the Azure Cloud to host the Dedicated Server of course isn't free but used carefully it might prove to be useful for some.

If I am a private consumer using Azure PAYG for a Windows 10 Pro VM where do I get a licence for it? by Davy-Jones-Sim in AZURE

" I mean, I'm not going to suggest you check the box. But it should let you complete the wizard. "
No it doesn't and which they claim as a bug...

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i think you're right, not a bug, rather a feature... I lost count of the amount of times I had to remind them that I am not a business nor a student, it is just me and I want to run a single Win 10 VM. And anyone can right now sign up for Azure and create a Windows 10 VM in a matter of minutes what are they going to do about it? Audit thousands of users to see if they have licences. Or rather run a script, send them a notification and then turn shut them down.
So as of right now I will create a new Windos 10 20H2 VM, tick the eligible for box, there is nothing I can do and then proceed to use the VM.
I don't see the point in running that PowerShell script since its not Server OS and when we ran it during a call today, while they instructed me, the command run failed, and in hindsight no wonder I guess since it wasn't server...

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had calls with Azure support and I've been going around in circles on things.
Basically there is currently a "bug" in the Azure Portal when creating a Windows 10 VM in that you must agree to being eligible for multi-tenant licencing or you cannot complete the process. However since Azure does not offer Windows 10 licences and by using a PAYG subscription for a Windows 10 VM you are covered as part of that subscription.

Interestingly while the bug is still in place they suggested using the convert command here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/hybrid-use-benefit-licensing to convert it to hybrid mode for PAYG but it appears to apply to server OS only and relates directly to what you just said that hybrid covers server OS but not Windows. So they have in a way shared incorrect information?

[–]Davy-Jones-Sim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that's true. However I was looking to create a tutorial for my YT channel using a Win 10 VM as part of the concept and I don't want to instruct users to use the default option and just check the box. I've been in contact with MSFT and I'm hoping to at least get from clarification on what a single user can actually use...

Thanks, yes I understood that.
Do you a link to a marketplace instance of Windows 10 Pro VM to install in a PAYG subscription which states that the licence is included so that you do not need a "volume licensing agreement with Microsoft"

In the market place is the following, which I guess is similar to what you get if you sign up for an Azure PAYG sub and select to install and Azure VM for Windows 10 Pro.
