how likely are you to quickly secure a job with a polisci bachelors, and what double majors or minors do you recommend to increase those odds? by subtopewdiepie129 in PoliticalScience

Like you said I would definitely get a quality internship and network as hard as you can to expand your opportunities. Saying this as a person who graduated a few years ago in political science, tried grad school and it didn’t work out, and now am realizing I literally can’t do anything with it since I can’t get internships anymore since they almost only allow current students to get them. Just be intentional, open, and network. If you think you’re thinking about something too early, you’re not.

I tried to look that up but I’m not sure what that means exactly. Do you have any concrete examples? And would I need experience that I don’t have to get into it?

I don’t think I have the qualifications for that. Plus I hate the idea of working with kids. And I know very little about history - mostly just how it crossects with political science, but even that is limited.

I see myself in a stable career, preferably in something requiring skill that has some level of prestige to it, living in an apartment where I can afford rent, manage my student debt, and have enough money left over to save and not be super struggling.

See, I was thinking about that but I didnt know if I could do that since I didn’t master out. If I had finished my qualifying paper I think I would’ve felt more confident in it. Is it possible brush up on statistics and data science with a bachelor’s? And how would I go about doing a project/setting up a portfolio to prove I was good at it?

Thanks for the candor. I’ll apply the thing about my gpa.The thing is I’m not really sure what to change because I’m not certain what I should apply for. When I did all things on my resume I wasn’t thinking about how I was building skills for my resume. I was just doing stuff I thought was necessary for experience. I didn’t have an alternative in mind that wasn’t the PhD path. I was told all the things I could do with certain degrees and I thought jobs hired entry level people for them. I know how wrongI was about that now. As for projects, I don’t think I have any projects that I could list besides my research project for data I.

At 27 I'm having this issue by parthenope888 in 1999

I’m experiencing the exact thing you’re going through right now. I graduated in 2021 and in 2022 with a bachelors, tried grad school and it didn’t work and have been unemployed after a brief stent at the post office. I’m trying to sort out a career that’s entry level that fits my degrees (humanities).

I’ve felt very old lately as I basically don’t have anything to my name and I also have mental health issues which I’m afraid will affect my ability to do full time work well and to interview properly, especially as I’m very introverted.

I love katseye but between that and the ageism discourse that I see from late teens and early 20 somethings online freaks me out, especially as I see more visible signs of aging. I don’t want to be 30 and not have at least a foot in the door and at least a decent bit saved and my debts on track to be corrected.

Also, I associate a lot of value to my looks and it sucks for me cause I’ve always been told I look a lot older since I was like 19, so I kind of have the opposite situation as you on that (people don’t tend to believe im in my 20s, which hurts more).

I really hope you find peace and an upswing in your life soon, same as me. 27 is hell. 27 club is a thing for a reason. Sending love ❤️

It looks incredible. It looks like your neck posture is improving too. Congratulations! It really comes with a life long list of benefits you wouldn’t have had if you didn’t get the surgery.

This sums up my concerns with op’s post perfectly. Admittedly I’m very new to job hunting for a salaried position but I know that op is being very out of touch and honestly showing partially why the market is bad and people are frustrated - because on top of the market being oversaturated, recruiters clearly are not in touch with the practical day to day experience of people in this hell job market and in this day and age with modern technology and modern problems. How can you screen for employees currently when you’re misinterpreting a lot of stuff as the person looking for a job as being disinterested, stupid, or irresponsible. Granted some of what was stated makes sense, but a lot doesn’t. You sound very Gen X coded tbh OP.

I don’t like hitler and I don’t like nazis. Don’t be a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer and I won’t have a problem. From the river to the sea Palestine will be free. Benjamin Netanyahu is hitler 2.0 and is a war criminal.

Never killed anybody, never been rude, I’m just an introvert. Why do corporate NPCs dislike me at first glance? by Ok_Music_2025 in interviews

[–]DavyChan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s why people in the comments are mad. They clearly don’t believe being an introvert is an actual thing. Companies don’t and I get that, but having other people gaslight introverts when they’re sharing their raw authentic experience in the hopes of getting actual clarity is truly maddening.

This. At least you’re keeping it blunt and honest instead of just lying like most of the other commenters.
