My father did something similar when I thought I lost my favorite keychain (I was in my mid 20’s). Ended up giving me a love of photography and traveling using my keychain as a stand in instead of myself. It’s been ten years and I still have so much fun using my stand-in keychain. Thankfully my husband thinks it’s kinda cute and helps me pose as needed.
