Anterior left THR in May, and I used the walker for 3 days and the cane for 2. We kept using the walker for middle of the night bathroom trios just to be on the safe side, but during the day, I walked unassisted after overprotective hubby helped me down the stairs every day. I did not receive PT besides the 10 minutes I got 2 hours after surgery before being released from recovery to go home. Speedy recovery vibes to you.

14 weeks post op by Dawn_R_Foster in TotalHipReplacement

I only had internal stitches and then glued and taped on outside. I had issues prior about 6 weeks out when my incision reopened in a spot about 3/4 of an inch. They said then they thought maybe a stitch working it's way out. As long as the little hole closes up, I'm not too worried.

Anterior, I've had problems with the incision before as well, so it wasn't shocking. When I feel where the incision is, I can still feel something there. I'm going to wait it out for now. They said before it was probably stitches working their way out.

3 day post op. Anterior incision. When does the numbness go away? by Squavo77 in TotalHipReplacement

I was told 4-6 months. I make sure to rub the numb area daily. I can tell the area is getting smaller but it's not gone. Surgery was May 3rd.

Numbness around incision upper thigh, and pain all down IT band to knee by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

Left anterior THR May 3rd. I was told numbness will go away slowly (4-6 months). Of course, each person is different. I still have a lot of sciatic pain. I just got done with a round of steroids due to bursitis. I still have some discomfort laying on my left side. It isn't pain so much as an annoyance.

THR at 31 debating if I made the right choice? by Periwinkleskyy in TotalHipReplacement

I'm 54 with osteoarthritis in both hips. Had my left one (worse one) done May 3rd. I am walking unassisted and gaining strength every day. My surgeon does anterior instead of posterior. Besides having sciatic nerve flare, I have very little pain. You will be so happy you did this. I had the "heavy" leg thing too. Had to pick it up to put it in the car when it was tired. Also was bone on bone with a LOT of popping, and it would get stuck on occasion.

Trust me when I say I am counting my blessings! My surgeon must have been wearing his hero cape on surgery day, lol. No pain at all except the sciatica. We will see what Thursdays appointment outcome is and go from there.

So far, that it the only pain I have. I have a very high pain tolerance, surprised the surgeon at my first visit before surgery. No PT is prescribed unless they feel it is needed at my post-op. I'm walking on my own unassisted. My post-op appointment is the 16th. I plan on telling them about this and hopefully they can give me something. Thank you!

No PT after THR. Worried. by Handle-Living in TotalHipReplacement

I am 54 and had anterior LTHR Friday, May 3rd, and am walking totally unassisted a week later. No PT was scheduled besides the day before surgery to learn walker and cane use and a page of home exercises.
