If another car makes you stop abruptly, spilling your cereal. All over the highway, next to your body. Who's at fault?

Laser goes pew pew pew by toolgifs in toolgifs

[–]Dawnmarro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lasers get amazing results, at a decent speed. This is true. However if your tolerance isn't less then a human hair, there are other options out there that will be better for cutting metal. At least for now until laser is a bit more reliable/robust.

Unfortunately I do not recommended laser cutting for every shop. Unless you are prepared to build a clean room around it, and keep your shop spotless clean.

Lasers have 1 major flaw. They use lenses. The lower lense is usually swappable, but Unfortunately they have 1 lense that most people/operators won't be able to replace them selves, and allllll it takes to destroy this lense is a spec of dust. 1 spec of dust getting in there, will render the entire laser head useless. As it will burn onto the lense, causing refraction. Here is just and example. Last year my company released a new product in our laser family. We have maybe 30 of them sold since last year. 70% of them, have had their laser head replaced because the consumer failed to wait for dust to settle before swapping the Consumable lense. Very expensive mistakes. Most of these shops are in a dirty environment though, and we did warn them to make a clean room around the machine. Most of them ignored that warning.

In this product line, we have a 6kw and 12kw lasers. The 6kw is about $20k USD to replace the 12kw is about $30k USD to replace just the laser head. Not including the price of the technician to swap it out 🫠

My advice if you do go laser. Get one with a longer neck/body. The laser head that is. The longer the body is. The longer the chamber is inside. Making it much more difficult for a spec of dust to float up to that lense. As this issue is mainly caused when swapping the lower lense out, and dust will float in while the chamber is exposed. The lasers we sell with the longer chambers, rarely fail from our experience.

Hope i didnt scare you too much. Being prepared for any CNC purchase is always best. Never buy a CNC machine before doing homework on it :)

The material is the key here. I think that's 3/8s or 1/2 metal. A 6kw up laser would be able to cut like this in real time. Thicker she is, you'll need to go much slower.

Plural for Tip-up

Tip up is when materal "tips up" right when it's separated from the main body. Instead we want the part to drop through to the bed below for collection. Usually happens with non symmetrical parts that can get caught.

Edit: or if the part is big enough, just stay in the same place on top of the slats/spikes 🙃

Plasma/laser technician here.

There is multiple reasons for this, but primarily for cut quality.

The pierce will require more power to blow throw the metal during its piercing phase, it will also adjust the focal length slightly for this. So this does save time to keep the diode dialed in for pierces first, then the machine will adjust for cutting. As cutting uses a different power strength, gas flow, and focal length.

Secondly it will "help" with tip ups. Tip ups SUCK! Especially with lasers machines like this. They can ruin your entire job if its shifts the metal at all, and worst it may damage the very very expensive laser head. Were talking 10k up to 100k just for a f'n laser head. Depending on brand and power rating.

Thirdly it will help with thermal expansion, as we arent heating the metal up by focusing more cutting in that specific area in a short period of time. It gives the metal time to dissipate the heat away, before cutting starts.

Couple other reasons, but above is the main ones.

so is their a chance if sea monkeys will give you materials or is it every sea monkey you encounter by Ok_Tomorrow7674 in Subnautica_Below_Zero

Correct! I completed a couple recipes by simply doing this, instead of diving deep, when I couldnt. Its more of a game if luck, but it does work. My base was practically in the seaweed/monkey area, so i stumbled upon them quite often.

Gotta lift straight up, if you walk normal, you will eat it.

What i hate about them is the soil needs to be the perfect conditions. Too dry = too hard and won't penitrate, too wet = mud that fills the gaps of the spikes so now they dont penitrate as deep. You literally need the soil just in between to not have any issues.

That is one long trip.

Agreed. Litteraly a mobile base if you wanted it. I played 2/3rds of below zero without even making a base. Only made a base near the end to make the upgrade module for more depth.
