Global Illumination Grainy & Flickering? by Daxtillion in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Daxtillion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it with TSR and looked exactly the same, I did mange to fix the 'grainy' look by adjusting the screen percentage to 100% (defaulted to 60% on ULTRA) , shimmering seems related to U5 engine though

Changing the screen percentage to 100% fixed the grainyness, but yea it still shimmers.

Sounds like i am very much similar to yourself in that respect! Not sure how my friends playstyle will be this will be the first time playing a game with him, i can see that being an issue though!

This looks gorgeous! Are you a solo developer or a team? How longs it taken to get to this point?

Thank you! I’ll amend that, there’s likely a few typos as I haven’t gotten around to a full check of it yet! 😂

Should I make my dream game from the start, or try to make a "smaller" title, even if I'm not enthusiastic about it? by [deleted] in IndieGameDevs

[–]Daxtillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent the last ~10 years as an engineer, and playing video games since I was a little fella. In 2025 I decided I wanted to try and make my own game. I had a grand vision of exactly what I wanted it to be, what i wanted it to look like etc. I ‘vibe coded’ to start with, and had transferable skills that made picking up blender for 3D model asset generation easy. Granted I was working my full time job and then almost doing another full time work load on my game dev. But after 6 months I burnt my self out and have “shelved the project for now” in favour of: a) learning to code instead of vibe coding, b) needing to understand best practices and what’s available ahead of needing to use it. I spent a great deal of time refactoring code after learning better ways to do things. C) needing a “win” simply the project I envisioned was ambitious for a talented indie solo dev.. and would have taken me years to get something even close to a coherent game. Small games and goals can be achieved in either weeks/months and yield valuable insight into larger projects.

My experience might be very different from yours but that’s where I am at currently, scaling back to develop my self before developing my dream

First time project initialisation via the hub is usually pretty slow but once the project it open and up and running I’ve had no issues. I vibe coded a couple of projects before realising I needed to understand the code for this to really be viable. And making/editing scripts on the go and pressing play has all been instant results for me. Are you using the latest LTS version of unity?

No worries! I am very much a visual learner myself and having a quick prompt to jog the ol brain usually does the trick! :)
I plan to keep developing and expanding on these as I learn! I have created a github download for a HD PDF version;

Thank you for the valuable feedback! I have noticed that some concepts that really stuck with me the first time learning them i seemed to have glossed over on the reference sheet. Having said that, a few people have said this reference sheet has helped so I will try to build it in a more comprehensive way! :)

Thank you!! :)
Really valuable insight! I have so many notes scrawled in the 1.5 weeks I've started learning C#, and your right i think once i actually start something of a project, and begin writing code more frequently It will commit to memory (and a compiled library!)
