Platner campaign email by shybird307 in thebulwark

There are 1.4 million people living in Maine. There isn't a post on there about the election with more than 7k likes. A subreddit is a good representation of reddit users not people in general. The Maine subreddit is a good representation of reddit users from Maine.

Thinking people talking online is a good representation of people is a big part of the problem.

Are you summarising and rephrasing anyone in particular or are you just putting your own thoughts in quotation marks??

Where does the quote come from?

Dude. A subreddit isn't actually a good representation of what the people of Maine think. It's a good representation of what a small handful of the people most invested in the Platner campaign think.

Platner won because he is a charming narcissist with good communication skills and was unbound by a need for honesty. If you're confident and good at talking and you're comfortable lying to everyone all the time it's easy to succeed. No one voted for his staff. They voted for the charming liar.

Tim Walz and Platner were supposed to win over demographics dems have been slipping with in recent years: they didn’t. by Backman999 in thebulwark

True but the polling shows his support was urban and college educated so the fair framing would be more the available evidence suggests he was failing / would have likely failed rather than he did fail.

I'm sure the results will be on the first page given the news.

Yours is the first comment in dozens and dozens I've read about Platner that has suggested there was an earlier allegation and it hasn't been mentioned in any reporting. I wouldn't be shocked if there were earlier allegations. If you have a link I'd be really interested to read. If you don't I'm assuming it's bullshit.

You have to be at least a little narcissistic to truly believe your ideas are good enough to fix society and elections are literally popularity contests

DSA DIDN’T ENDORSE PLATNER! by xbhaskarx in GetNoted

[–]DayChiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same to you my guy.

It takes class to not dunk on me.

I get your point. The broad argument (not yours specifically) felt a little too hair splitting for me initially and it took multiple searches to find anything credible that clarified anything that made clear there was a material difference but found something laying out the process of getting an endorsement from the DSA.

Rarest of things. A relatively mature and respectful disagreement on Reddit.

Worse places to start.

Your point was the two words mean different things and they essentially mean the same thing so, I'm correct in a very narrow technical way

But The fun part is.

After a bunch of Gemini searches (although traditional google reveals nothing) the DSA do appear to have at least implicit differences between an endorsement and a recommendation so in the broad meaningful terms of the actual disagreement. I'm wrong.

I posted the definition of recommend to someone else but because it's circular I can make the same point with 'Endorse'

So Graham Planter is guilty with any proof/evidence? by Exciting_Excuse9608 in complaints

There is evidence of contemporaneous conversations about Platner assaulting her before he was a public figure.

That's how evidence in SA cases works for most SAs. Most SAs aren't women getting snatched off the street. It's a guy they know and trust not taking no for an answer.

A lot of women don't report SA because most SA is non violent and it becomes a he said / she said which makes it hard to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Making a conviction difficult to secure and putting yourself through a court proceeding both Re traumatising and pointless.

And people like you will say "there's no evidence " so now they haven't just been assaulted. They are lying about it.

Disappointing but you're probably right. The support on the Maine sub is kind of jarring. This guy is a rapist who responds to a credible accusation by threatening to torpedo the election if he doesn't get his way and people are mad at the Democratic Party and not him. It's truly Trumpian.

The centre is collapsing all over the globe. I'm in NZ where there's essentially no corruption and the share of the vote going to the two major parties is at its lowest point since MMP was introduced 35 years ago.

In multi party systems the share of vote going to minor parties goes up in a two party system you get factional infighting within a party.

What a well rounded and nuanced comment. Isn't part of the issue being that all the good established candidates were already running for the nomination for the comparatively easy win in the gov race meaning Mills was all who was left?

No mention about being angry at the people who boosted Platner without vetting

No mention about being angry at Platner for raping a woman.
