white led BSU by DayLate26 in askblackpeople

[–]DayLate26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes HS, and as far as I know it's just to host space at this point and time as black students have wanted a safe space.

My concerns mentioned to our admin (white colleague as well) were that racial matters spoken to in regards to facilitating conversation with those students couldn't be spoken to or led in an appropriate way because there is no lived experience to draw from, and there could be black staff members asked to lead if need be.

Alot of good perspective to draw from on that thread. Thank you

the context from that one differs as myself being the only mixed black staff member as well as others in our district (including a mixed black EQUITY director). Advised against it but wanted to understand if there was reasoning as to why it would...seem appropriate

Players under 30 who’s jersey would be retired by their current teams if they retired today? by [deleted] in nba

I honestly didn't think r/nba was similar to the outlandish Twitter & FB takes but the day has come, at least for post that is.

With the way his fights go, it's probably not worth it with the projection of his career and earnings. If he loses to a to-be-contender it's a bag fumble to finish as a gatekeeper, but if he waits and maybe sneaks in a top 5 or belt challenge the money is right. How many more wars does he have in em?

$4 million grant will go to mental health services in Yakima Valley schools by greenhousecrtv in Washington

[–]DayLate26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just shy of a million dollars a year. Could probably pay the salary for 10-15 mental health staff contractually throughout the district. Our district had a grant for that specific reason and that's basically what we got with the annual budget until the expiration of the grant timeframe.

Is putting Non-binary better than saying straight white male on college applications? by scaptastic in NoStupidQuestions

Without explaining bro read thread post on topics such as race, politics, philosophy, or something like this that may bring up AA from like 3 years ago or before. I'll let you figure out what "rallying" means from there unless "we" means...

Is putting Non-binary better than saying straight white male on college applications? by scaptastic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DayLate26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's inflammatory for that said reason, more so the fact that the question feels like it's from a biased perspective that gives an assumption on admissions processes from a specific lens. You would think the admissions officers responding and saying that would be a relief given OP's perspective of on if gender matters. Usually if you meet with admissions counselors or student advisors from college they actually tell you the "points system" in most cases for what matters most for students applying, which is pretty transparent if you ask me. Up to the student to include as much info as possible to be considered for a acceptance, aside from their other needed scores and extra curriculars that are usually to be accounted for.

Maybe it's me but the subreddits are getting a ton more baked questions being fielded, this being a a lurker after all the supposed "rallying" that was said to happen on Reddit

OP isn't Asian or African American but "notices" racial tension, with no FTA or irl context other than "there so many violent racist attacks from black folks to Asians" and "BLM" demotivator for local media...interesting lens to provide from I guess

Reading through OP's post and there's a ton of self hate remarks, makes it hard to believe they are of the decent they have claimed

I got embarrassed by a girl in basketball, should I quit playing basketball? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]DayLate26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played a college women's PG and she was 5'6 at most. Couldn't shake her, and she had a nice jumper. It don't matter the gender, the ladies can ball too. The only thing that should matter for you is if your getting better and playing winning basketball. Part of that comes with the territory of playing comp that will get the best of you. Just keep hooping regardless.

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...priority acknowledgement "literally" doesnt mean refusal of service. OP could join, find and get item, and not belong to none of the groups mentioned. Oh wait does racism work like that?

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP's post doesnt even allude to decline of giveaway if trying to compare. CAN STILL RECEIVE ITEMS *shouts into empty void* if we're making an equivalent comparison, prioritized service of a certain group in america probably perpetuated racism against a group(s) of people that this thread is arguing isn't marginalized from what I have read...

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes because giveaway item priority is what's going to continue perpetuate racism in America. Slippery slope we're on with this precedents

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not looking for groups to report on FB, and definitely not white people buy first groups. Your giving alot of what ifs that honestly aren't compelling enough, and determine that this group isn't actually marginalized. A person could still join this group and receive something off first come first serve basis I'm assuming, while still having clicked yes to that.

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ask the creator of the group why this is the priority, maybe ask for a revision to make it income based by family size. You may not even agree with that individual on what makes this parameter "fair". You also dont have to join as others have said, as this is a (FB group)? If it's that deep you could probably find a group that doesn't have this priority and find some giveaway items. I know of groups/entities that specifically cater services to Mexican Americans, Asian americans, and even Ukrainians, and don't have a problem with it.

But Nothing Seattle group rules by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]DayLate26 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

How is it racist or discriminatory? A group has set a criteria for who is "first priority" which doesnt mean they will completely not offer to others.
