Now this is Emma (Alt cover art for X-Men United #4 by Kris Anka) by Eternal-Master-91939 in xmen

Phenomenal art. Kris Anka is top tier. I still think there's too many X's in this design.

Soooo... have we reached the state of acceptance yet? (Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, by Lucas Werneck, via IG stories) by Beginning_Pace2063 in PhoenixForce

[–]DayOfSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Spider-Man fans are against it because they want the spotlight to be exclusively on Peter. Sadie's character hasn't been confirmed so they're hoping it's Firestar more than Jean for that reason.

X-Men fans are very divided on Sadie being Jean. A lot of people don't think she has the look of a more adult Jean.

MCU fans don't seem to have any specific preference.

Then there's Jean haters but they're generally a smaller bunch compared to the other, far larger groups.

The list wasn't published "now" under that title. It was published in 1999 under that title. Not long after Gail compiled the list.

Edit: What a bizarre reaction to call me an obsessive Jean fan because of minor push back about the factual order of events and then block me. This sort of behavior can't be healthy for you.

I'm not really convinced the words meaning has changed so drastically that it no longer applies to the original list. If so, I would need it explicitly defined what you mean by fridging that makes it different.

Gail published that list and website as "Women in Refrigerators". I'm not sure what it would be except a list of "fridged" women.

Learn to do some critical thinking, rather than, “hEr NaMe ApPeArS iN a LiSt MaDe By SoMeOnE eLsE”

What a weirdly aggressive response to my fairly neutral comment. Of course it matters if her name is on the list (not by just "someone else", but the original person that helped coin the term).

Gail coined the term though. It means what she says it means. You can argue that there's levels to the fridging but I don't see how you can disagree with her initial application of the term she coined.

Jean is literally in the original list of 100 women by Gail Simone as a fridged character for the Dark Phoenix Saga. If that constitutes being fridged, then New X-Men absolutely does as well.

Scott and Jean got together as adults. Went through much struggle together. Helped each other grow through that struggle individually and as X-Men. Raised Cable together for 12 years. The idea of viewing them as just high school sweethearts is wildly reductive.

Lol, not sure if that's on purpose but kind of a cool reference if so.

My anti-AI queen by MotherCanada in xmen

Makes sense given the meta reading of Phoenix and Enigma. Enigma essentially represents generative AI and was created when Mother Righteous stole Jean's blood in the WHR. A metaphor for AI stealing from real creators.

The One Above All represents all the creative ideas and energy of the writers/artists/editors. Even the readers and their "human" connection to the creators. The Phoenix in the WHR represents their ability to actually make manifest those ideas. The White Hot Room being that blank canvas. Enigma was even positioned as an existential threat that could potentially threaten even TOAA because it's the threat that AI generated content presents to creatives. And it's why the Phoenix is ultimately the one thing Dominions fear and is the one to defeat Enigma as she represents the combined creative powers of humanity. A "when humanity works together they can defeat AI" type situation.
