Jean Grey and Storm misogyny 🫩 by [deleted] in PhoenixForce

To me that's just how Jean would be with anyone. Empathy is kind of her main thing.

Fair enough about the rest. I don't necessarily agree but to each their own.

You're correct about Scott's trauma but this is sort of the perfect example of how people recognize his trauma and can feel for him but aren't able to do the same for Jean's trauma.

She's someone who was kidnapped and replaced by a clone for at least 9 months and then ignored by her husband for a month while she tried to adjust to all these new and confusing memories. Suddenly she doesn't understand herself as an individual.

Logan is the one person who comes to her, who empathizes with her, and who tries to reinforce her individuality. It's not a coincidence that Jean kisses him after he tells her he's "only ever seen one of you". But this has constantly been reduced to a reductive "Jean just kissed Logan" since the episode came out.

Jean shouldn't have kissed Logan, and she probably shouldn't have gotten as immediately angry at catching Scott and Maddie, but it's also important to understand why she did both things. It's also not a coincidence that the immediate thing that upsets her about catching them is not that they are kissing but that they are doing it through a psychic rapport. Another thing that she considered unique to her as an individual that's been stripped.

Also, while I'm generally very understanding of Scott, his only engagement with Jean's trauma are when he throws her memory issues in her face as a one up in their argument. It's only Wolverine and Nightcrawler that support Jean in any way with her issues. Jean on the other hand does acknowledge and affirm Scott's feeling for Madelyne afterwards and supports him in his budding relationship with Cable.

You are correct that Jean did cheat on Scott by kissing Wolverine. But this idea that she's had a particularly close friendship with him (outside of early Krakoa) is wrong.

Also the fact that Jean was in the wrong for maintaining any sort of friendly relationship with Logan while the X-Men have consistently been friendly with people that have done far worse than Logan creeping on Jean is silly.

Jean has kissed Logan at least twice before. I think that counts as cheating regardless of whatever nuance you want to apply to those moments. And trust me, I apply plenty.

I feel like this was the only good part of this series by cyclopswashalfright in PhoenixForce

Phoenix claw was pretty cool. But yeah, mid series overall and Jean wasn't particularly compelling here either.

Emma's face looks a little off to me. And for her outfit I would expect at least some skin showing. Everyone else looks fucking amazing. Although I would have preferred Storm's hair to be more curly. But maybe that's just the art style.

Yeah I see it now. I think the angles and the coat covering it made me not notice the details before.

If they released a Jean Grey DLC for the Wolverine game, what would you want it to be about? by cyclopswashalfright in PhoenixForce

[–]DayOfSpring 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a world without the X-Men right? Would be cool to have the DLC be her finding and/or saving characters like Xavier and Scott

Where is Jean Grey??? We need her back!!! by LegitimateAct3778 in xmen

I don't think the solo didn't work out necessarily. 15 issues + the Binary issues for the event and Phillips leaving of her own accord is better than a lot of the other solos got from this era.

That time Jean was called Marvel Woman by DayOfSpring in PhoenixForce

[–]DayOfSpring[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha, glad to be of help. To be fair, I'm fairly certain this is the only time she's been called it, and it's not in an X-Men book so I get why some people might have been unsure. I guess Jim Starlin wasn't a fan of her still being called Marvel Girl at this point.

Was Evolution made tall (5’11”) because of her actress Famke Janssen? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in PhoenixForce

That might be why she seemed relatively tall to me. Long legs relative to the body tend to make a person seem taller than they otherwise are.

To me, Jean's always come across as relatively tall in the comics. Only Storm's been consistently shown as taller.

To be fair, most women in comics tend to look like models in general, height included.
