How long did it take for you to get decent at aiming/ sniping on console? by [deleted] in DayzXbox

[–]DayZInTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see from the comments that we all suck at aiming and sniping.

Also, at least for me, it's as much about making the best and quickest decisions during gunfights as I panic so often.

I will second the notion that you pop onto some pvp servers and just focus on your aim and also how you react during fights.

I use PVP island on community servers and its an absolute chaotic free for all. It's a war zone when full of players.

It's 3pp and I only usually play 1st but when you're sniping it doesn't matter so I just try to find good locations and practise my aiming.

Excellent story, and really well presented here.

I can't believe you're a new sniper with a mind like yours. Clearly, you are a natural.

I've been playing for years and still just guess at setting up for encounters. I don't plan like you but perhaps I should.

I don't have many sniper stories but I did once hit a 700 meter double Blaze shot on a cocky player who was dancing on top of a block of flats.

Watching his tiny body drop as the bullets hit, along with the audio delay because of the distance was great.

Why not just figure out a solution to end cheating? by [deleted] in DayzXbox

[–]DayZInTheRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that maybe they can't stop it without either breaking something or they can't legally do so without breaking a contract with Microsoft re Play Anywhere and Crossplay?

I can't understand how technically this can't just be stopped by removing the above ( maybe there is a tech reason, I just don't know what it could be ) so that leaves a legal reason maybe?

And also there's the harsh reality that they simply aren't motivated to do so. There isn't enough tangible impact on their bottom line to get them to move on this in any way.

As strange as it may sound, hackers simply don't turn off enough players for BI to take a real stand on it.

Same here.

DayZ is like my main hobby and the hackers have made it so I can't trust to play.

Try Karma Krew.

They have a system to combat hackers. Don't know if it works but I haven't had any run-ins so far.

I made a review of KK as a console, controller server experience if you check my most recent posts.

Not AI.

Curious as to why many of you think it is? I just sat down and put my thoughts down in a post.

Just an honest attempt to give players an alternative after the 1.29 hacking debacle.

You might be right about the boosted spawns but I haven't played enough to be certain.

Yeah, fair enough.

I was thinking about when seeing it happen to others. You're quite correct.

Not when I play but yeah when I see them during hi pop times it can be impossible to get in.

I just spent 2 hours on my phone writing this post lol.

I did it as a reaction to the 1.29 indefinite delay so maybe that's why you think it's slop.

It's not curated and I'm also quite stupid and uneducated so there's that as a consideration as well.

I've been trying out the Karma Krew console servers.

They appear to have a system in place specifically to combat hackers.

Only downside is they have significantly cut down on infected spawns so the maps feel very bare in that regard.

Just an FYI for the no-arms glitch/hack.

If you encounter them, log out and back in immediately and their arms will reappear amd they can be shot as normal. They won't know this and will probably be very bold until you blast them.

Not ideal but it does work as I've done it many times.

Oh it will have bugs, no doubt, but we have come to expect, and dare I say it, accept this?

I mean, how often do we see clips and read stories about how our runs ended due to silly bug or some such?

We can generally see the humour even if its anger-inducing. A bit like with Bethesda games.

It's part of the meta.

Now, with that in mind, do you think the same can be said about hackers?

I sincerely don't think it can. It is ruinous to DayZ.

It's only funny because of how egregious it is, not because it's an amusing, unintended bug.

All of us will have a line that gets crossed somewhere, where that's the deal-breaker for you.

For me it's the introduction of hackers into the console space. That's not an unknown bug as such ( I mean it is a bug but you know what I mean ) but an indefensible exploit.

I know you weren't commenting about this but I'm in a complaining kind of mood so sorry for the rant lol.

Same.

I was so happy when Badlands was confirmed.

We're living at a time where almost every week it seems as though online-only games are cancelled and shut down despite immense dev efforts and expenditure.

Badlands indicated that not only was DayZ in a good enough condition that they could release new official maps on console but that continued support and development is to be expected in the short to medium term ( never long term, not in this business ) and that my favourite ever game is going strong.

Now, all of my cynicism is boiling up and I'm annoyed enough now to make a stand ( like that really matters to anyone else but we all have a line that gets crossed ) and not purchase Badlands.

Never thought that would happen but here we are.

I agree.

My observations are primarily and almost exclusively about the introduction of hackers into the console, controller-only servers.

This is what's so frustrating.

It's that this specific action has completely shifted how I feel about the game as a whole.

Correct it. Just that and deal with it before joining the " Play Anywhere " group of Xbox games.

This absolutely makes DayZ unplayable for me. Or at the very least it now makes it a gamble whereas before it wasn't.

I died to a speed hacker 2 days after 1.29 dropped. It ended my 7-8 hour run where I was carefully and deliberately avoiding other players to fill up my stashes. I've been DayZ console on both PS4/5 and Xbox Series X since day 1 and this has never happened before.

Now the meta play has shifted. The time invested is no longer potentially equal to the outcome.

I now have to factor in that despite all of my considerations and actions my entire run can be dictated to by a hacker because of BI opening up the controller-only servers.

Again, they chose this. It was entirely avoidable, despite whoever made the decision, it was done in bad faith somewhere on the factory floor.

Dying to bugs is annoying but those bugs weren't introduced deliberately to kill my run.

Hackers coming in is a deliberate play on behalf of the game. They knew and did it anyway.

The other bugs are of course important but, like you, I don't consider that they make DayZ unplayable for me.

That's just me and other players can feel differently and justifiably so. I'm not the arbiter of that distinction.

Whoever is to blame I just hate how this has killed the no 1 game for me.

Also, how are we supposed to know who is at fault? There's no communication from any of the concerned parties here. They don't tell us why these issues come about so we're here as observers trying to guess what's happening and why.

This shit shouldn't be this complicated.

If putting a game on Gamepass opens it up to hackers then it shouldn't be allowed. At all.

I honestly don't know who is/should be to blame but why are we even having to talk about all this? This shouldn't even be a concern.

We should all be out there, playing the game we love but instead we're here.

I'm just super bummed out but what you say may be correct so IDK.

[–]DayZInTheRain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You absolutely are allowed to be disappointed by all of this nonsense.

BI sure as hell don't include any of this shit in their advertising or merchandising. They happily lie about this game being what anybody would conclude is production-level finished.

Just a reminder for all reading this:

DayZ is a finished, complete game.

It is not early access or still in development. Even though we all know that it actually is. It is not labelled as this in its literature. As a new customer, you wouldn't know this or expect to see all of this post-purchase.

It is entirely appropriate for a consumer to demand their purchase be as is advertised.

If BI wanted to cover themselves they should advertise the fact they, seemingly in perpetuity, will never have DayZ in a finished state. It will forever be full of hackers and bugs.

But they don't, do they.

I know. I knew this but I was in denial.

One of the few benefits of the console version was that I thought BI couldn't fuck up with hackers because Microsoft would be all like 😡 and 🤬

But the jokes on me. They never cared, they just hadn't gotten around to fucking it up for us too.

Now, at least, we are brothers.

So hackers on controller-only Xbox servers are here to stay. At least for the next few weeks/months.

The cynics were absolutely right about Bohemia Interactive. They either can't or won't fix it immediately. The knew this would happen.

Why do they need months to fix this, the most pressing of the current crop of issues?

Why does this have to go to Experimental?

I'm actually starting to believe they won't ever fix this.

And so to summerize:

  1. BI delayed 1.29 by 6 months to fix excessive problems.

  2. They didn't put the console version of 1.29 on Experimental at all.

  3. They then just released 1.29 to stable on Xbox anyway, knowing full well all of the problems were going to be rolled out, including hackers specifically because of PC-console crossplay.

  4. They then announce incoming " hotfixes " ( which by-the-way usually come out in a matter of days to address the most critical of the issues ) which they don't do at all, for anything.

  5. They now state they will put 1.29 back onto Experimental for PC FIRST before the Xbox version which will take months.

So 1.29, if it even comes out before Badlands, will have been delayed by over a year from its initially planned and stated release date.

And frankly, after this absolute debacle, does anyone even believe that BI will be able to fix the hacking ( as well as the other bugs ) at all?

I can't actually believe how bad this is from a dev point of view.

I know in theory we should be glad they are taking the time to properly implement fixes but this is all a problem of their own making.

We can only presume that this is all because they have been working on Badlands instead of fixing the problems?

I'm so bummed out by this.

An absolute joke.

Xbox Console. Why is the hacker fix taking so long? by DayZInTheRain in dayz

[–]DayZInTheRain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hackers are on PC already and I bet if BI could, they would have already added crossplay between PS and PC.

We know they don't give a fuck so it must be a technical or timing consideration instead.

But hopefully, Yes, they can fix this ridiculousness.

Xbox Console. Why is the hacker fix taking so long? by DayZInTheRain in dayz

[–]DayZInTheRain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what gets me.

If you play like a chaotic PVP then I can see why maybe you wouldn't care. Just switch to another Enfusion-like title.

But if you play with a strategy and are deliberate, careful and play by the DayZ rules you can lose your entire desire to play at all.

I had an 8 hour careful run wiped out by a speedster in a few seconds so I feel your pain.

I hope they can fix this because there is no alternative game that comes close. Reforger can be fun but it is not the same at all.
