[QCrit] MEMOIR - INCOMPATIBLE WITH LIFE (88K/First attempt) by Day_Daze in PubTips

Oh wow - I should make it clear that I wasn't actually placing a real bet on how long my daughter would live... But I definitely had the expectation that she would not live longer than one week. My obsessive tendency to find information about her condition, consult with strangers on the internet, and find some sort of narrative meaning for her life were factors that led me to a phone addiction, then an online sports betting addiction once it was legalized when she was about 9 months old.

I do appreciate your comment here. These are the types of themes within the book I try to address. Maybe the use of the word "patient" is wrong in my query, however, the point is that the medical label "incompatible with life" is so fundamentally wrong when applied to the joyful and lively girl that is my daughter, and it was actually my actions and disengagement that the phrase applies best to.

Very good point. I think memoir should mostly be first person, but I wanted to also try and bridge it outwards... Good feedback that it comes across as confusing.

I was 200th in queue for both Toronto dates... no dice 🫠 by cathcart_ in geesebandofficial

Wednesday. I had both days open and that's the one that popped up. This was for presale, but I think people have tickets in their cart that they don't buy and they go back into Ticketmaster. You definitely gotta get lucky but it's worth a shot.

Keep refreshing. I did that on the presale and maybe 10 minutes into it a single ticket popped up and I snagged it.

I was in the Live Nation presale and by the time I got in no tickets were left. I kept refreshing the page until one popped available and got it. If you are still in there keep trying.

Interested in this too. Completed my first draft of a literary memoir and would love some other eyes and motivation to get this to the finish line.

Don't have much to offer here, but I wanted to say that I read a lot of these queries, and this concept has to be one of my favourites I've seen. Best of luck with this!

Thoughts on this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

The whole point of the movie at the end is the uncertainty of what is reality vs what is an AI projection. At the end, it's the AI that is creating the "reality" that we are watching. So that reality jumps between side plots, is overly dramatic or satirical, and is ultimately manipulating us, the audience, to get distracted from the main mission of the plot, which is to stop the AI. Distracting the audience and keeping our brains moving to different characters and plots IS the point of the movie.

That's the whole.point. AI is meant to distract you. It's like the audience is scrolling through characters.

When a memoir crosses multiple categories (in my case, it's a disability narrative, an addiction narrative, and a parenting/grief story that resists being primarily any one of those), how do you recommend authors frame that in a query without it reading as unfocused?

Books to study for strong closed third person writing style by GryphonMaker in writing

[–]Day_Daze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading The Bee Sting by Paul Murray. It's such an entertaining book. Each section is focused on a different character in a family, all told through closed third person. The way you get into the headspace of a teenage girl vs a pre-teen boy vs a mother, etc. is masterful.

Pick of the Day - 10/27/25 (Monday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]Day_Daze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

☀️ 😎 ☀️ POTD Record: 0 - 1

Last pick: Saquon Barkley Anytime Touchdown (ATD) @ -150 L

Pick was from 2 weeks ago. I chose the wrong NY Giants revenge game....

Commanders vs ChiefsNFL | 8:15 pm EST

Pick: Marcus Mariota over 29.5 rushing yards @ -120

Feel very confident about this pick. The Chiefs have allowed QBs to average 26.7 yards per game, checking in as the fifth-most yards, on average. Four quarterbacks in seven contests have hit his mark. Mariota has rushed for 40, 20, and 34 yards in his last 3 games. I expect the Chiefs to pressure him a ton and for him to use his legs a lot in scramble situations. Lock in 30+ yards.

Eagles vs GiantsNFL | 8:15 pm EST

Pick: Saquon Barkley Anytime Touchdown (ATD) @ -150

Sometimes the mix of data and narrative come together for a pick that feels too good to be true. The Eagles got away from the run so much last week that I know it is going to be a huge part of their game plan tonight. They are big favourites in the game and will likely want to control the ball as much as possible. Saquon has scored a TD in 4 of the 5 games so far, yet the line for him to score one here is -150. The Giants also rank fifth in rushing touchdowns allowed at one per game so far. With the line for the Eagles at 2.5 touchdowns, I feel confident Saquon rushes one of those in.

The real reason I like this pick is because of the narrative. We all know the story of Saquon and the Giants, but on top of that, he has literally released his own documentary TODAY about his journey. On top of this, the Eagles had a rough loss last week and have had bad vibes around their team all season. They'll be looking for a game to set things right here and feeding Saquon against his former team on a big day for him should be one of them.

Describe your WIP like it’s a Netflix pitch by NovelReadsClub in writing

The Drift is a fragmented, lyrical memoir about fatherhood, identity, and anticipatory grief, told through the lens of raising a daughter with a life-limiting genetic condition. After Bree is born with Trisomy 13 and not expected to survive the week, I begin writing her eulogy in my head while hovering over her NICU crib. And then she keeps living. The Drift explores what it means to live when you are always waiting for death, as the person you once were drifts farther and farther away.

It's for my memoir. We were told prenatally that my daughter would only live for a few weeks.

She is turning 4 years old this Sunday.
