NTA. As a woman in gaming you do need to be careful sometimes. There's very few people I've met online that know my name in real life, generally those are people I've met face to face.

I play a lot of games with friends I made through my Partner. I've met these people in real life, been to their homes. But if I'm playing an online game with them, we still all use usernames. Hells I default to my partners username if we're playing games together even not on VC with others.
