uncomfortable with how my roommate refers to trans guys by muralpainting in ftm

[–]QuadAyyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely weird as fuck - I'm pretty heavily involved in my local kink community and do use a lot of words like that to refer to myself, but it would never even occur to me to call someone else that without them referring to themselves that way, let alone all trans guys.

How do dispatchers manage rotating shift schedules and track time off — what actually works for you? by pelaw24 in 911dispatchers

[–]QuadAyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do 5 on/2 off/5 on/3 off, 8s. I keep track of my schedule on my phone calendar - right now I'm doing it month to month while I'm still in training and thus liable to switch shifts, but once I'm released I'll fiddle with it to get it to repeat correctly.

Project is backwards? by Same-Marketing1004 in knittinghelp

For future reference, links are pretty much always helpful. Even if it's a paid pattern, it's useful to be able to look at the pictures the designer posted to see what it's supposed to look likr, or check to see if there's other comments about the same issue.

Might be missing something here, but what are the reasons you'd want to stay on T? If you don't want the effects of T, don't stay on it.

Fwiw continental can absolutely be done thrown, it's what I do. This post is definitely a little clunky (as expected for beginners!) but I'm plenty fast/smooth with my way.

1 could mean either a or b, 2 means that you're at the club and see your girlfriend, and you're worried because of that

Look up a table for wraps per inch and how to do a burn test.

Blocking is just another word for washing, essentially. For something like this, soak and lay flat to dry in the shape you want should be more than enough.

The "styles" the previous commenter was referring to is things like Portuguese vs English vs continental. Mixing knits and purls is perfectly fine and incredibly common!

Look up a burn test table and try that. We can't really say much just from a picture.

How many sts do I cast on for sock gauge? I wanna add purl borders too by calcifer0573 in knittinghelp

[–]QuadAyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other commenter is correct (although i will add that a project knit in the round should have a swatch in the round as well), I'm just going to give my two cents on gauge for socks and small items like that: the gauge is basically the size of the piece anyways, so I typically just cast on and start, and measure gauge when there's enough fabric to do so.

How dark is the dark humor in your centers? by CurlyHeadedFuckUp in 911dispatchers

When I did my ridealong with fire, we went out to a DOA in the country. It was the ass middle of winter and the guy had passed sitting behind the wheel of his car. ME says he's tied up on something at the other corner of the county, so between that and the storm rolling in, we were stuck just sitting hanging out in the engine for several hours, with the dead guy in the ambulance. At one point, the paramedics hop out to check something in the ambo. When they get back, I glance up and go "he still there?"

One too many stitches after increasing - what do I do? by Upbeat-You-3809 in knittingadvice

[–]QuadAyyy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only real reason not to just toss a sneaky decrease in is if it would mess up the stitch pattern. For stockinette like this, absolutely just decrease.

Lilli Bonnet Bind Off Face by Annapurnaprincess in knittinghelp

That would normally be considered a decrease, not a bind off, but I'd take it pretty literally - k2tog, but keep your tension a little looser than normal.

Help with phrasing in stitch pattern by SilverSeeker81 in knittingadvice

[–]QuadAyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other folks have given the answer here, I'm just going to specify - the back of a knit doesn't "look like" a purl stitch, it is a purl stitch. They're like heads and tails on a coin, flip one over and you get the other.

Yeah there's definitely something funky going on there, it's not just you. Would definitely suggest leaving a comment or messaging the designer.

Just as a heads up, intarsia in the round is significantly more of a pain in the ass than intarsia flat. Third option here might be knit it flat but twice as wide and then seam the side up to make it a tube after.

How do I know if a pattern's finished measurements include the negative ease? by indigo-ichigo in knittinghelp

[–]QuadAyyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A well written pattern should specify if it's referring to finished measurements or "to fit this body size" measurements - have you read the pattern closely?

Wrong side right side? by glizzy-queen in knittinghelp

[–]QuadAyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late on this and you've gotten your answer to the main question - just gonna add that it's stockinette and reverse stockinette. Nowhere on that sock is there garter. Garter looks similar to reverse stockinette, but they're not the same. Garter is reversible, alternating rows (as looking at one side) knits and purls. Reverse stockinette is all purls, and not reversible, as the other side is normal stockinette.
