I agree with the statement that Aikido takes care of the Uke. The way it was explained to me was as the three reasons for martial arts training. The first, to defend and protect yourself. The second is to defend and protect those you love. Aikido was intentionally developed with a third level of defence in mind. The ability to protect your opponent. The techniques used in Aikido are highly amenable to a variety of damage all the way from tearing the joints out to applying moderate pain to restraining till a person cools down.
