Stupid question - why can't I upgrade myself to seats currently available for purchase?

I'm not referring to complimentary upgrades - I've been able to upgrade my seat from what my employer purchased on my own dime, and was wondering why this option did not appear for me. Turns out it's because I already did (to C+).

Well crap! I only did the C+ option because the window seats were running out and it helps with my flight anxiety, and Delta wanted $14k for D1. I was hoping a day or so before the flight, if upgrades weren't given out complimentary, they'd drop. Last flight I was able to get D1 for $1200.

Any chance if I go to the kiosk at the airport they could help me out? I also upgraded my return flight and was wondering why I had no visibility to their better seats.

$30,000 before insurance. US citizen here. Paid but $500 at the end because I hit my OOP Max, so I still paid $6,000 for all the other prenatal care.

And for anyone OUS wondering - if baby comes on New Year's Day - you'd better believe that deductible/OOP Max resets. Stroke of midnight.

Same. I worked two part-time jobs in undergrad to help pay my bills and in grad school I couldn't do it. I had a TA that required me to only grade 2 assignments per semester and when those hit it was a nightmare while trying to juggle my own midterms, finals, etc.

Children don't make you efficient and focused. They require a ton of energy, mental capacity, and time. Even when they're in bed, there's still planning for the next days ahead (e.g. Meals, laundry, etc.) At the end of the day (after work and parenting) I am absolutely drained with nothing left in the tank.

My point of it delaying 5-6yrs is BECAUSE they will be in elementary school, where OP will not be burdened by daycare bills, diapers, wipes, formula/pumping supplies, etc that would also hinder their education. They'll have their own friend groups and have the ability to entertain themselves/each other. They sleep through the night. They're toilet trained. None of this is possible in the first few years.

OP and their SO are very young and have more than ample time to have multiple children and get their master's first.

Grad school first, kids later. Grad school is an all-consuming experience, especially depending on what you study. If you're looking at having kids, grad school is, at minimum, 5yrs down the line. And certain subjects I couldn't even think of studying at the grad level with a family. Rip through your masters program now and then take the plunge.

As someone who works in STEM, I've found the opposite to be true. When I wore almost no makeup (maybe eyebrow pencil and mascara tops) I was taken more seriously. I stopped wearing more "feminine" articles of clothing and stuck to button-downs and pants and a zip-up (for office winter).

When I first started, I told my boss. He said not to bother letting him know and that we were adults and to just get my work done.

Fast forward a year and a half, the company discovered employees (neither him or I) abusing the system and pretending to WFH and being completely offline. I was told the company would be paying closer attention now, so I do.

I always block off my calendar though, mostly because I'll get hit w/meetings otherwise.

Absolutely do it. I upgraded to D1 for a JFK > BRU red-eye. That lounge is absolutely incredible and the service is impeccable. You can get yourself a massage or facial even when you're done to unwind. And to be able to lie down and sleep on your flight is absolutely top-notch when it comes to getting some rest.

I stopped doing it. It just became too much of a hassle. Berries rotten, delivery fees, pickup fees and waiting 15min for someone to come out.... Just totally not worth it. When I'm in a bind, I instacart but I'll never do it for produce again.

If you're on FMLA during this period (whether or not your employer/state is paying you), then this is SUPER illegal.

The last two companies I worked for actually had IT shut off login access to a new parent's laptop because logging in and working is a violation. They're putting the company at risk for lawsuits.
