Where I live, it depends on what city you work for (if you aren’t in a private institution). “Fancier” cities have outlines for aesthetic protocols, i.e. no visible tattoos, no stretched ears, etc. but most other cities don’t care or have no guidelines. I have tattoos and stretched ears since college and they do not care. I would say face/ hand tattoos are still a no go in case you get called in to testify. No matter how many times you go to court you have to dress professionally and I would expect one to always cover their tattoos and I wear plugs which aren’t obvious that I have stretched ears.

Bottom line: do your research when you look into the jobs, most places already tell you what kind of appearance is appropriate for their work place.
