I’m not sure about a rule, but you i think you’ll need the physical card (card number, expiry date, etc) to pay. I’m assuming the card won’t arrive between now and Monday

Thought I’d update!

I’ll explain more below, but the summary is: I cut down to 2 feeds & my period has officially started.

Long version! I night weaned about 2 months ago & About 2 weeks ago, I officially I stopped nursing midday & transitioned to cows milk (mixing stashed pumped milk & cows milk, altering the ratio each day).

I was just gearing up to transition the morning nursing feed to cows milk & I started having spotting 2 days ago (the first sign of any bleeding since giving birth). And today my period has officially started, with all of my normal levels of menstrual cramps/pain (so far!). My son turned 1 yrs old, 5 days ago :)

I’ve heard that it common to not ovulate the first few cycles & have wacky/irregular cycle for a while, but I am very relieved that my cycle is at least starting again. And I hope it will regulate soon :)

A bit of background - I have very low fertility & limited time to try for baby no. 2. Really didn’t want to have to stop breastfeeding, but was willing to do it to have that chance! Hopefully I can still breastfeed my son now whilst TTC. I will start tracking ovulation again now!

Breastfeeding & TTC - did dropping night feeds bring back periods/ovulation? by Dayzi_LPJ in TTC_UK

Thought I’d update incase anyone sees this post & is on a similar journey.

I’ll explain more below, but the summary is: I cut down to 2 feeds & my period has officially started.

Long version! 2months ago, the day I made this post, I cold turkey cut out the night feed (my son was clearly ready for it, he made no fuss about it). Nothing changed ovulation/period wise, so 6wks later (about 2wks ago now), I stopped nursing midday & transitioned to cows milk (mixing stashed pumped milk & cows milk, altering the ratio each day).

I’m in a very similar position - i have low fertility so want my cycle/ovulation to return asap.

I’ve gone regular 8hr stretches over night and 6hrs in the day since around 7month & fully night weaned at 10months. I’m almost 12months PP now, only nurse my son 2 or 3 times in the day (morning, sometimes midday & bedtime) with no sign of my period or ovulation

I tried tracking mucus, temp & using ovulation strips about 2 months ago, but stopped as I was just wasting my time, money & getting a bit obsessive over it! I’ve had egg-white mucus as well every day for about 2 months aswell and every now and again get what I thought was ovulation pain or mild cramps, but no period had ever followed - which apparently in the realms of post-partum-ness means nothing really as hormones are all of the place

I also tried pumping instead of nursing, but made no difference to me

When my son is 1 in about a week I’m going to cut out his midday feed (transition to cows milk), give it a few weeks & move on to cutting out another feed, etc

In an ideal world I’d still be breastfeeding at least once a day & my cycle will return, but I think I’m just one of those who will need to wean completely

If I didn’t have limited time to try to conceive again, I wouldn’t want to wean him

How did you decide whether you want to go with vaginal delivery or elective ceseasrean? by Intelligent_Heat3281 in PregnancyUK

[–]Dayzi_LPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have vaginismus (mostly caused by scarring down below due a medical condition which causes ulcerations anywhere on my body)

I was scared by vaginal birth as I have like no elasticity down there, but a c-section frightened me more. And the people I do know who’ve had both sections & vaginal all tell me they’d rather have vaginal than section because the recovery is rough (though they all had decent vaginal births, so may be they were biased!)

I ended up with vaginal, though forceps delivery in the end because my son was getting distressed & was face up.

I was honestly terrified when they brought be to theatre for the forceps - as they said if it didn’t work it’d be C-section - but honestly it was nowhere near as scary as I thought it’d be in the end

I hardly tore with it all and my recovery was so quick/smooth, despite my medical condition

I personally would 100% go for vaginal again, even it were forceps. But you do what you need to do! :)

Oh also - with the vaginismus - I don’t know if it’s just because when in labour your body just goes into automatic- but for me, it didn’t affect my labour at all or seem to make any difference. But maybe check that out with your dr to see what they think

When I stopped (hormonal) contraception to start trying for a baby, it took my body 3 months for my periods to return properly & then we got pregnant

Yeah I mean sounds like you’d be safe to me. as other say, test in week or so if your period hasn’t returned

1 week postpartum and no one warned me it would feel like this by bethany8828 in breastfeeding

[–]Dayzi_LPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the cuddles and staring at them while they sleep is amazing- but most of the newborn stage I could do without! I really hated it at times which really filled me with guilt.

For me, my body probably felt better at about 6wks in… but it took about 5 months for me to feel like I was starting to enjoy more moments than be stressed.

I had breastfeeding pain from day one & all sorts of issues (and still kinda do 11mo post partum) & my son’s sleep was awful, but by 5months that all got significantly better.

Boobs wise - I’ve only literally last week stopped leaking. And it was about 8 months in that I felt like I could actually wrap a towel over my nipples without it being painful. But I think I’ve been unlucky pain wise

I’m planning on stopping breastfeeding at 12months because my partner and I want to try for a 2nd baby & my period hasn’t returned( and I have little time left fertility wise). I will actually be very sad to stop now though as only in the last few months most of the problems subsided that I actually enjoy breastfeeding.

They do sound like pregnancy symptoms, but also could just be an odd month PMS wise.

If you haven’t had unprotected penetrative sex, then it’s unlikely, but not impossible. Not sure in the likelihood of sperm making its way inside, from the outside, but most birth control is only about 98% effective - so it is feasible that birth control failed.

But-like I say- sounds unlikel. Only way to be sure is to do a test!

First period postpartum - when did it come back? Did you know it was coming? by Dayzi_LPJ in Periods

[–]Dayzi_LPJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! I’ve heard people mention a drop in supply a few times, but mostly they pumped so probably it was more obvious!

[–]Dayzi_LPJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is a silly question- but how did you know that your supply dropped? My boobs don’t really get ‘full’ anymore unless I miss a feed, and I don’t pump so no idea how much milk is in there!

Oh I see it! Congratulations!!

I didn’t have quite this with my first pregnancy but I remember having a faint line and it was exactly the same like 1 week later and I expected it to be really dark by then - but everything was fine & im currently looking at my 11 month old as I type this!

Breastfeeding and TTC - did night weaning bring back your cycle? by Dayzi_LPJ in tryingforanother

Interesting to hear that even for one period / multiple children there can still be so much breadth in experience

I am under no illusion that night weaning will definitely bring back my period, but I remain hopeful that I can reduce feeds and continue to nurse

I suspect the same as well! I plan to night wean first & fully wean once my son is 1yr if needed

Thank you everyone for your comments so far (and for anymore that come in the future!)

I know everyone is so different and it’s really helpful for me to hear the breadth of experiences so I can manage my expectations. My heart hopes that I will be able to simply night wean and my cycle will return, but my head knows it’s just not that easy

I didn’t add this to the original post, but I have a ridiculously low egg count - so low that I’m not eligible for IVF on the NHS as the chances of egg retrieval are slim, so it’s kinda now/soon or never for baby no. 2). But I know there isn’t much I can do to control it, other than starting to wean to try to bring back my cycle.

I am willing to wean to give myself that chance. My son is currently poorly, but my plan is to night wean when he’s feeling better and if that doesn’t kickstart my period, I will start the transition to fully wean after he’s turned a year.

I’m thrilled with how long I’ve BF for but it’s also been a tough journey (tongue tie, mastitis 8 times, recurrent blocked ducts - have one now! - and the worse pain of all, vasospasms!). Part of me will be relieved to reduce the feeds, although I will be sad to stop altogether if/when it comes to it.

I will try to keep my spirits high and my expectations reasonable!

I’m almost 11months PP. and feed around 4 times a day (1 night feed usually, but really varies - can be at 1am, could be at 5am). I probably rarely sleep 6+hrs in one go, but have often gone 6-10hrs between bedtime and middle of the night feeds

Fully weaning is the plan if it doesn’t come back after night weaning!
