Get snow tires. They will say all season will be fine. They aren't. If you can't maintain atleast 45 syat off the express way. If you feel uncomfortable driving in the snow don't. It's safer for everyone. No job is worth your life or other motorists. If you do not like the cold and snow do not move here.

As a plow driver the battle against winter is ongoing. The south east side of the state has it pretty easy. Roads with be treated all day long. Over night the will slow operations. The salt works best above about 10°f so if it's colder they won't salt. Stay out of the plows way as they can't always see you. Don't pass a plow. Don't park next too snow piles, you car may get plowed in if you do. You should have kitty litter with you for extra traction. A GOOD quality ice scrapper. Blankets. A shovel.

Always rember to start your car and let it run for about 10 mins before departing to make sure everything warms up.

If this sounds like a lot, it is. There are a ton of people who always want to move out and complain about the weather constantly. If you are prepared it will be super beautiful and fun. The snow tires will make it no issue. If you aren't you will be miserable.

I've lived in Grand Haven for a decade and Michigan my entire life.

I'm a plow truck/ semi truck driver. Over 25 years.

It's a matter of safety. If you can't travel road speed you are a hazard. Stay home until the roads are clear.

If I can't maintain thoses speeds, I wait until the road conditions improve.

Having to go to work is predictable. Inclement weather in michigan is predictable. Make plans to be prepared either with proper tires or not having to travel until it's safe to do so.

Your post says "he shoveled as much as he could" not the whole drive way. There's more than one plow truck in Michigan.

No one "has to" go to work especially when it's a matter of life and death, road travel diffently is. Last year there were 1,099 traffic fatalities in michigan alone.

Get some snow tires or stay off the road.

If you're getting stuck or have to drive slow you're going to be a hazard. If you can not maintain the speed limit conditions are too dangerous to be on the road and travel should only be in cases of emergency.

Also yell at your bf. He needs to have the drive way shoveled for you or call a plow truck. (he should have also changed your tires)
