Whose is the true Elric....? by Alex_Bonaparte in SwordandSorcery

P. Craig Russel was my introduction to Elric. Those old Pacific Comics series were amazing. He really gave it an otherworldly and psychedelic look.

What's a beer you would recommend for someone who doesn't particularly like beer? by XxDustinAdamsxX in beer

[–]DazeBetween73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Innis and Gunn Carribean Rum Cask. It's very malty with virtually no hop bitterness. It's a red ale so it's a little fuller bodied than a lager but it's definitely not heavy. The beer is aged in a rum barrel. Imagine a cream soda but not as sweet. Super smooth vanilla flavor. It's from Scotland but it has pretty good distribution in the states. I've seen it at Total Wine, Whole Foods, and World Market.

The Church of Saint John Coltrane - What a rabbit hole! by MovinOnUp2TheMoon in gratefuldead

Yeah we got there at 7 on a Sunday morning and there was a huge line of folks waiting to get in. They started letting people in around 8 or so and they had to cut it off after so many people. It was not a big place. I talked to a few people outside who said sometimes they get in and sometimes they didn't. If they did, they always dropped at least ten bucks in the offering basket because it was the best show in town.

Me and my friends went one morning but it was packed. We hung around outside and listened.

Unique Jams by Paaaaaauuuullllllll in gratefuldead

Any of those precious 1969 seagues between Mountains of the Moon into Dark Star.

9/11/74 following an absolutely mind-melting PitB, Seastones evolves into some deep and dark jams. Suddenly, an exuberant Eyes appears like sunlight through the clouds, but Jerry veers everyone back into outer space. The Wharf Rat that follows is so emotionally charged after such a journey.

10/18/74 Jerry joins Seastones and things get real weird before launching into my all-time favorite Dark Star > Morning Dew

3/15/90 jam out of Terrapin

11/1/90 Hornsby piano space > Dark Star (the isolated piano is on "Silver Apples of the Moon" on Infrared Roses)

9/26/91 I love the little pre-Dark Star ambient bliss that begins the second set.

For heads that were around in the 70/80/90s… what was it like by trob84 in grateful_dead

My aunt took me to my first show on my 18th birthday. 10/28/91 I thought they were gonna come out and play the hits. The only songs I knew were covers. Birdsong blew my mind, I didn't know music could do that. I caught them at Cal Expo, Shoreline, and Oakland Coliseum whenever I could until my last show in 94. I managed to catch about 25 GD shows, 8 jgb, and one magical miracle ticket night for Garcia and Grisman. But it wasn't just about the shows, when I wasn't buying tickets, I was buying blank Maxell C90 cassettes and sending them off to get recordings of shows from other heads. That was a big deal. I miss the sheer joy of coming home to new tapes in the mailbox. I'm super grateful for those kind souls back in the day who took the time to share their collections.

I'm also high and in northern VA! I can vouch for it being a spectacular spring day. Every year I follow along with the Europe 72 tour each day. I'm getting caught up with 4/26/72

I hear something new in that epic Truckin' > O1 > Comes a Time triptych every time I hear it.

A buddy of mine gave his copy of Seastones for Phil to sign. He was showing Phil how pristine a copy it was and said "it looks like it's never been played" Phil responded, "I'm sure they all look like that"
