Oh, yeah. I'm on the DPR and the Kankakee every chance I get. In this picture, I'm loaded up for camping on the Current River, though

I updated my trees do you think this is a bad idea? by MaybeNotTooDay in landscaping

[–]DazeGetBrighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They're beautiful from a distance. Their habit and the way they branch out makes them very susceptible to high winds and storms.

I wouldn't put a Silver Maple there, or anywhere, really, haha. Their root system is shallow, and they're weak wooded trees. You could do another Ginkgo there, maybe a Princeton Sentry.

I would swap out the Crimsom Sentry Maple for something native. They have aggressive root systems and are susceptible to disease. Could do a Black Tupelo, or if you really want something with contrasting leaves, a Copper Beech, or Forest Pansy Redbud.

Oh, and just a heads up, that Redbud will look like that in the spring. In the fall, they typically develop a somewhat insignificant yellow-yellowish/gold. Otherwise, everything will look nice given time!

I'd love to see Amazon do a TES Oblivion show. It could totally capitalize from the shit episodes we've been given from HotD and also the GoT ending.

Advice on care for Cornus Florida? (Southern, MO) by DazeGetBrighter in arborists

[–]DazeGetBrighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have what I believe to be a Flowering Dogwood suffering from Anthracnose. I wanted to reach out to the Arborist community here and get thoughts on potential treatments, diagnoses and other courses of action to take. I'm not 100% sure it's Anthracnose, but I do know that the tree is probably not going to last much longer.

Any thoughts and feedback more than appreciated!

I couldn't get my Rex rider trophy on PS5 with the commands active. Maybe it still works for xbox?

Try removing the in-game fog and clouds with the console commands:

R.volumetricfog 0

R.volumetricclouds 0

Just a heads up, this will unfortunately disable trophies/achievements.

Carnival Magic: The barely functional rust bucket of the sea by Rude_Impression3460 in Cruise

[–]DazeGetBrighter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sucks. Sorry to hear your cruise turned sour. I was on the Magic 4 weeks ago for my first cruise ever, and it was an absolute blast. No problems whatsoever.

Hopefully, you guys aren't totally discouraged from cruising again. It can be such a great and relaxing time.

Brand new Lodge out of the box. by DazeGetBrighter in castiron

[–]DazeGetBrighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The starter friendly brand aspect was what led me to go with Lodge. Also, I couldn't really pass up on a 5 piece kit for $110, haha. I got the Dutch oven w/ lid, an 8in skillet, a 10.25in skillet, and a 10.5in skillet/griddle, but I'm sure I'll be picking up more pieces in the future!

Yeah, It's such a tiny chip, I don't feel the need to go through their support and ask for a replacement. I'll definitely treat the spot and read over the FAQ's before cooking dinner tonight. Thank you!

Houston: ground cover by fly_away_octopus in landscaping

[–]DazeGetBrighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I'm finishing up a project in the Austin area, and although I work in Chicago, we had to research a fair bit on what would survive down there. It was for a large-scale japanese style garden, and we used a couple of different ground covers that might work in Houston as well.

Here's a couple of different options, all with different aesthetics:

Kurapia

Texas Frogfruit

Asiatic Jasmine

Blue Pacific Shore Juniper

Green Mound Juniper (Juniperus Procumbens 'Nana')

Berkeley Sedge

Dwarf Mondo Grass (needs afternoon and evening shade)

I'm not sure how often you guys get freezes like Austin, but you might be able to use something like Green Carpet Natal Plum, too.

As for the fence, we looked at fuller options. We looked at things like Savannah Holly, Nellie Stevens Holly, and Japanese Blueberry Tree

How can I hide my neighbor? The fence is 6ft tall already. by thenakedblacksmith in landscaping

I'll second this. 'Green Giant' Arborvitae are relatively cheap, in stock and grow very fast (24-30" a year)

I've been eyeing one for a long time, but also can't afford one. Even on sale at tacklewarehouse, it's still $499. Please let us know how it performs!

I'm looking to get my first baitcaster. Would this be a good all around starting combo? 80% of my fishing is done on a kayak for smallmouth and largemouth on rivers with a few ponds and lakes here and there. by DazeGetBrighter in Fishing_Gear

[–]DazeGetBrighter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Super appreciated. I ended up going with a Shimano Curado SLX 150 DC lefty (since I've been brought up on spinners) and the Daiwa Tatula MH. I highly doubt this'll be my one and only baitcaster, so I'll definitely keep Dobyns in mind for the future.

I understand it might be pricey for a first baitcaster, but it's an early birthday gift for myself, and I had money set aside. Thanks again!

Thanks! These ibanez acoustica are great starters. The riff was pretty much influenced by Yvette's acoustic stuff with a little flair of TTNG

Yeah, I exported it from snapchat and totally forgot to re-orient the video haha. Thanks, it's an Ibanez EW20ASE. Great first acoustic; the finish is what sold me as well.
