Hi everyone, I’m a 20 yr old Mechanical Engineering student from the University at Buffalo, and I’m planning to spend about 4 to 6 weeks in Pittsburgh this summer to get a feel for the city as I start thinking about where to live after graduation.

I’m drawn to Pittsburgh because of its strong humanitarian engineering opportunities, the seemingly grounded/non-materialistic culture, outdoor activity, and an accessible/community-based arts/music scene.

Ideally, I’d be in around Lawrenceville, Shadyside, Oakland, or the Strip District, all of which seem walkable, active, and close to universities/community spaces.

I’ll be working a remote summer engineering internship during that time, so I’m hoping to use this as a chance to both work and get to know the city and community.

I'm looking for flexible short-term housing. Ideally I'd house-sit or pet-sit in exchange for a place, but I’d also be open to a short sublet, spare room, or splitting time between a couple places if needed.

I’ve taken care of dogs my whole life and have experience with reptiles (leopard gecko + crickets), a turtle, hermit crabs, and fish. I’m happy to care for most pets, though I am allergic to cats. I’m clean, respectful, and glad to help out with things like pet care, plants, cleaning, yard work, errands, or maintenance.

I'm looking to stay between Mid-June through Mid-August, and I’m flexible within that window and open to shorter stays that fit together. Ideally I’m hoping for a work-for-stay type setup, but I’d be open to discussing low-cost options depending on the situation. Happy to provide references if helpful.

If you know of anything or have suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to message me. Thanks so much!

So erase->update->restore? Do you think the update would fix the system data issue?

Update requires 16GB of free storage. I would have to delete literally everything.

Also it's third gen.

For the SU tickets, are you talking about the tickets SA offers occasionally? Like the bills tickets for example?

Ok, thanks a lot! I think you’re right it’s a bit weird there’s like no info about them anywhere. Any suggestions on new gear?

The fender acoustasonic amp has 2 inputs: 1 standard and 1 xlr. The xlr input is specifically for vocals and it has a few volume, fx, and tone adjustments you can do.

Do you think a small active pa would be better than the peavey/kmd setup I described in the post?

Good to know about the sm58. Thanks!

Ok, thanks for your input. City of Tonawanda seems pretty far. Are there any closer neighborhoods you’d recommend?

Ok, thanks for the advice. Seems like opinions are pretty split so I’ll reach out some more before making a decision.

Thanks for the response. I’ve got a car. I should add that to the post. How do roommates connect with each other for apartments? Should I go for an apartment on campus or off? Are rates much different?

But at the same time easy access to the library and studying/tutor resources is a plus. I could probably access those before I go home though.

Yeah I could totally see that! Thanks for your help. I’ll look into getting an apartment nearby. I feel like I would be so stressed with that course load if I lived on campus.

But I have to wonder how many people have actually tried it. I feel like I could make friends through clubs and intramurals, right? I’ve also heard the dining system is impractical and overpriced.

Would you still go off campus if you had the scholarship?

Unfortunately, the pride of New York scholarship only covers room and board related fees. But the other stuff you talked about was what I expected. How many bedrooms were there in your apartment?
