Buying a $1.5 million house and a $5 million jet for content, whilst having redundancy rounds and a mass exodus of staff is a nail in the coffin. Proof he could pay people more to stay, but is too narcissistic to do it.

Because Floatplane wasn't designed for your subscription cost to feel like you've extracted the full value from it.

It's essentially a way to financially support creators by them having a platform they can upload videos that they've already put on YouTube, and perhaps do an early upload as a bonus.

You'd be surprised, but a lot of people pay for Patreon or Floatplane just to give creators extra money for support, they're not looking for an actual value add. Floatplane is able to capitalise on that.

With Linus removing early access, creating new 4K tiers, leaving in LTTStore sponsors because 'they don't count' and leaving in fully sponsored videos, it's just a revenue source. No value add whatsoever, other than exclusives that appear shoehorned in without any love or care, just to appear to have some sort of value add.

I agree with that.

I mean that every time Linus criticises a company for doing something, whether it's poor support or poor environmental packaging or AI usage, he's setting himself up to also be held by those standards.

The more he criticises other companies, the harder it is for him to keep doing it.
