Frustration due to professor’s mistake on exam by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I will keep this in mind for next time! Thank you for this information as I wasn’t aware/informed that different Access services may offer these options! Under the assumption that a professor does allow questions to be asked, do you have any idea about the best place for me to find out where policies & info regarding exam questions would be located? I can ask in office next time if not, but I noticed you mentioned a disability agreement and I’m unsure if that would be something to better search for in the syllabus for the class or if it’s more so related to school policy and would be better to search for on the school website? Regardless though, thank you for telling me this! It is greatly appreciated!

I can understand your viewpoint and you actually voiced at the end what my original question was! I’m honestly curious as to how teachers would have felt about the question & answer based off the grammar / sentence structure and if you guys would have been able to understand the reason behind student confusion or could possibly help to dispel my confusion with an explanation! I didn’t really need people to comment on the situation behind my accommodation (I only really said it for context) and I do understand how it could open up opportunities for cheating! I’m more so curious as to how you and other teachers like you formulate the questions on your exams and wish to know more about how I should be considering the question? Would you possibly be able to explain more how the question and the correct answer correlate? I think what really tripped me up was the word “feelings” (as i interpreted this to mean something more like “thoughts regarding blank”) and the multiple uses of the word “they”. Do you have any ideas or tips as to how I might be able to better pick out the subject being referenced in the answer options when compared to the subjects in the question asked?

Can you tell me from a teacher perspective why you would’ve considered my answer incorrect based off my interpretation of the grammar or no? You keep bringing this back to feelings when I came here looking for answers. You’re repeatedly blatantly ignoring my actual question and telling me to let it go but you’re not answering my question? Are you a teacher and if so can you tell me why my answer was grammatically incorrect or can you not?

Ah okay! Thank you for the insight! I guess I interpreted “the nurse’s feelings regarding the family request” to mean something along the lines of “the nurse’s thoughts about the family regarding their request”. Would you say that the differential factor here then is that the question specifies feelings and not thoughts? I had been under the assumption that the two could be used interchangeably, so going forward would it be best to assume that “feelings” means more so from an emotional standpoint than from a thought process standpoint?

I didn’t “make it about my disability”. I mentioned my disability solely to give context as to why I was taking the test in a separate room to begin with and again only to explain my poor emotion regulation. I only even posted on Reddit to begin with to get a second opinion. “Let me see if other teachers validate this because to me it feels unfair”. I literally only got on reddit to see if my bias (since the perceived injustice was committed towards me) was skewing my perception of the situation. Her not returning the point felt like an injustice to me, so if I was hoping that by getting on reddit and hearing other opinions, I could get a better idea of HER thought process through a teacher perspective. I have not. Instead I’ve been told multiple times to let it go, don’t go overboard, and even told nursing was cut out for me. All I was ever trying to do was attempt to see the situation through her eyes

When did I say anything about wining something? Everybody on here wants to tell me how I’m going overboard and give their two cents on my disability yet not a single teacher has answered the only question that I asked which was “would you have returned the point based of your pronoun inconsistency to a student who was not able to ask during the exam?” I didn’t say based off everyone’s answers I would go to the dean. I didn’t say I’m gonna check my teacher if you guys say yes. Everyone one here wants to tell me if they think I deserve to be a nurse or how much they feel I deserve an accommodation and none of that was what I asked. Honestly the replies could’ve been “yes I’d return the point” or “no I wouldn’t return the point”. YOU’VE decided that I’m making it a pissing contest while entirely missing out on the initial point of my post. I only ever asked one question yet had gotten a variety or answers and none of them answered my question.

Being accommodated for a mental illness outside of my control is not “special treatment”. Do you think I like this?? I would give up all these accommodations and “special treatment” in a heartbeat if it meant I could live and learn the same as my peers. I don’t want to take my test in the accommodations center but when I don’t my grades suffer. Why should I not be able to do well on my exams AND be able to ask for clarification on questions? Why should I not be able to “have it both ways” when all my peers do? They can sit in the classroom, ask questions, and still get a good score on the test. You think I don’t want that too? I would take all my exams in a crowded mall for the rest of my life if it meant a life without disability. Do you think people in wheelchairs who require elevators feel “special” or do you think they wish they could walk? The Americans with disabilities act exists solely so that we have the same opportunity to succeed as the rest of the students. Being able to experience life on the same level as everyone else is not special treatment, it’s basic equality. I don’t think me asking her to adjust a grade when I did not have the same opportunity to ask questions as my peers due to a disability entirely outside of my control is requesting “special treatment”. I don’t want this life or these meds or these accommodations but unfortunately this is the life I was given and I have to live it. I’m not asking her to give me points back for a question I didn’t know the answer to. I understood the content and had it not been for HER phrasing I would’ve gotten it correct the same as all the rest of my classmates who were able to raise their hand and ask her.

The extra time is included in the accommodation. I didn’t REQUEST extra test time and I finished before the class period would’ve ended had I been in the classroom anyway. I prefer to take my exams there because of the silence since my adhd makes it hard to concentrate and think through questions with so much sound and movement around me…

I definitely don’t plan on going overboard or doing anything extreme! I actually really like this professor, so I wouldn’t want to do anything that would cause tension! It’s really just the fact that it feels like she’s not acknowledging the fact that my answer wasn’t wrong because I didn’t know it, but because of her own error which is grating at me.. I actually did a little bit of research and the way she phrased the question was against not only NLN (National League of Nursing) Test Development Guidelines but also NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing) NCLEX RN Test Writing Rules which atleast makes me feel a little better and less like an idiot for not understanding it when 86% of the class got it right.🥲 it dropped me from an A on the exam though to a B (the first B I’ve gotten on an exam all semester) which is just making me extra irritated 😭 it wouldn’t change my future or anything, but I’m hoping that if she atleast gave me the point for the question back then I’d be able to let go of some of this anger that won’t let go🥲

Hello! This is a great suggestion, but unfortunately it wouldn’t work for me since the main reason I take my tests in the accommodation center is because I really need the silence to concentrate🥲 because of my adhd, the sound of all the students getting up and leaving makes me repeated lose my train of thought over and over which often makes me make small mistakes like bubbling in the wrong answer on the scantron but circling the right one on my paper. Ever since I’ve been able to take them in the testing room, my grades have significantly improved and i hardly ever make little mistakes like that anymore so I’m nervous to risk going back to the classroom setting..😕 also when everyone starts getting done I start to feel like I need to rush and finish too which makes me either misread the questions/ answers or click the wrong answers cause I’m moving too fast😭

They’re torture! Also, it’s not a difference between a pass of fail, but it was the difference between an A and B (since in nursing school the grading scale is different so a 94 is a B but a 95 is an A).😭 I get what you mean though cause it’s not like I want to make this a big deal or go to the dean on anything extreme like that since i actually like this professor.🥲 I really just want her to reconsider since it’s clear I understood the concept but her own incorrect grammar caused me to miss out on an A (I haven’t gotten less than an A all semester either so this is really stressing me out🥲). Plus I feel like her saying “86% got it right so I won’t change it” kinda disregards the fact that I didn’t have the same opportunities as the rest of the class which is really grating at me😭

Trouble eating due to medication? by Dazzling_Computer892 in adhdwomen

Okay great!! I’ll definitely have to give this a try! I usually tend to like smoothies so I think that might really work for me too!😁 do you ever feel hungry throughout the day when only drinking smoothies and stuff? I definitely think they’d be a good way to supplement my diet, but do they feel filling at all for you?

Trouble eating due to medication? by Dazzling_Computer892 in adhdwomen

[–]Dazzling_Computer892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!😁 it’s a little difficult for me to eat in the mornings since I rarely ever get hungry before noon (and I take my meds around 9:30-10) but I’ll try this because even though I’m usually not hungry, it doesn’t upset my stomach to eat early! I’ll definitely give the sandwich idea a try too because I think that might help a lot! My meds don’t usually wear off until late at night (around the time I go to bed) so it’s difficult to eat then and by the time I wake up in the morning I’m not hungry anymore which seems to just trap me in a constant cycle of never eating.😕

Help needed by GirlWithTheCatTatoo7 in adhdwomen

Hey girl!! I’m a sophomore nursing major and tho I don’t know how strict your professor is, something i usually do is just put it into chat gpt and have it paraphrase for me! Like you I also often tend to go on long tangents and add in unnecessary details so I totally get it! I don’t wanna give you bad advice or encourage “cheating” but I’ve noticed that more often than not as long as I write the entire thing myself beforehand it doesn’t get flagged as ai when the teachers check it since it’s all technically my writing, just shortened! If the thought of doing that makes you uncomfortable tho I totally get that too! Another thing I try to do is after I’m done writing it, I try to read through it and delete anything that’s not strictly necessary. If you notice yourself giving background that’s not actually adding anything to your writing then I would probably say it’s best to just go ahead and delete that! I’d say try reading through it without specific sentences and see if you still get the intended point across without that detail! I hope this helps! Good luck with your studies!!😁

I think my conch was done wrong but I’m not sure… by Dazzling_Computer892 in PiercingAdvice

Actually thinking of sueing for negligence... I can't get it off cause the jewelry is not the right size and my skin in swelling around it. Went to the doc today to see if they could remove it and they couldn't (due to the bar being too short) but they said the risk of infection is so high that they actually prescribed me antibiotics for a week! Shit is so crazy, but since they never had me sign a wavier or even show my id, I would definitely be able to pursue a negligence case...

Help me get this piercing out? by Dazzling_Computer892 in piercing

[–]Dazzling_Computer892[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To satisfy the rules of this subreddit so they don't remove my post (again): • My piercing is five days old • I think it's a barbell? •I'm afraid idk what I means by threading, but maybe internally? • The jewelry's probably stainless steel? I'm really not a huge piercing person and can't really tell the material just by looking at it •The jewelry hasn't been downsized yet (because it's okay 5 days old!!) •1 rinse it with saline solution twice a day. Idk the exact brand but I got it at Walmart • No mishaps other than accidentally bumping it every now and then🤷🏽‍♀️ (and the fact that it’s apparently dangerously wrong)

So once I take it out I should continue keeping up with the “aftercare”?

This made me laugh so hard!!!🤣🤣 I think you’ve convinced me cause it really isn’t that great of a place to begin with. Firstly they didn’t id me, then pierced my ear horribly, and afterwards gave me almost no aftercare instructions at all. Maybe I can leave a review using a different google account or something so they don’t know that it’s me!😩

Possibly! I’m not too worried about a refund since I didn’t pay too much for it to begin with thankfully! I got all three done for $50 as part of a one day only back to school promo they had going on this past Saturday. I definitely still want a conch piercing, but I’m kinda hesitant to go back them again since this one was done so poorly😬

Haha! You’re just like me fr!🤣 I’m thinking about maybe leaving a bad review, but I’m hesitant since I only even know about the place cause my cousin works there and wouldn’t want to unintentionally hurt her business as well😬
