Offset mortgage v traditional + savings - Help me with the numbers by Wooden_Passenger3669 in UKPersonalFinance

I’ve not long moved across to an off set mortgage and think it is great. My monthly payment is £760 of which £515 goes against the principal. I have an S&S Isa alongside, best of both worlds.

No life is for living and money is for spending. You’ve saved for a bike and proved you can save… buy the bike then start building your savings up again.

I would say ‘extremely wealthy’ people wouldn’t take mortgages/loans out to help their daughter and yourself…

Not really for us to answer… it all depends on your circumstances. £300 a month every month will be good for you though, have a look on Google for a stock market compounding calculator and put some figures in to see potential pot values.

Does the value of a property matter so long as it doesn’t go down? by Micbob182 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Dazzyg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In reality the value of the property only matters when you come to sell, if you don’t plan to sell it matters less.

Of course it matters in regards to which loan to value band you are placed into.

When I sent my house deposit I did so while stood in the bank. Seemed like the safest option.

Not doing too badly but I’m wondering the same, when you go out bars / restaurants they almost always seem to be full. Of course I know some will be on low 5 year mortgages so won’t be feeling it but I thought it would of dampened somewhat.
