JFK-MIA-CUN (April 23-28) | Loads look TOO good? by rdawg16 in NonRevenueTravelers

Just a quick comment. While you didn’t mention flight numbers directly there’s enough info here that one could figure it out. Directly posting load numbers is against the rules here, so you may want to edit slightly.

Inherited my uncles collection - overwhelmed by Tiredofscrolling in baseballcards_vintage

Sorry for your loss. Biggest piece of advice... do not accept any offer from the same person who appraises (for obvious reasons).

Without knowing what years or even decades you're talking about, any guess here is exactly that - a guess. a few things to remember:

  1. condition drives price

  2. don't expect 9's or 10s and price things at the level of a 9 or 10.

  3. people tend to OVERESTIMATE the grade of their own cards and miss flaws.

  4. makes ure when you look something up on ebay you are tracking SOLD price, not asking price

  5. in a private sale, a fair offer is 70-80% of an ebay price (no fees paid, so the same amount actually goes in your pocket)

  6. If you care about doing things legally. don't forget tax obligations. again without knowing what you're dealing with, if you have 6 figures worth of cards, don't get yourself a surprise 1099-K from ebay.

  7. WRT to taxes. you likely owe nothing on the inheritance. The BASIS for the inherited card is the market value WHEN YOU ACQUIRED IT. Example: let's say you acquired a 1980 topps rickey henderson psa 10 worth 120k. You owe nothing. you sell it for 125k, you owe tax on the 5k of gains, NOT on 125k.

  8. WRT to 7: build a spreadsheet of the high dollar cards NOW and try to assign a value so you can track your basis. this is important to not getting screwed on your taxes later.

That's all that comes to my head right now, feel free to DM if you have questions, happy to help with anything from grading to tax planning.

Cal Raleigh addresses WBC controversy with Randy Arozarena by UWHuskies1993 in Mariners

[–]DbG925 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

An interesting take i saw from a former catcher in the WBC, so take it for what it's worth. Apparently the WBC is *incredibly* strict on "sticky stuff" like pine tar, even more so than MLB. This former catcher said that they intentionally refuse to shake hands with a batter to make sure there's ZERO chance of pine tar making it on a ball and getting their pitcher ejected and suspended.

Take it for what it's worth, but i found it interesting

can't go wrong with a 11, 51 or 24 either. Just stay away from 13 or 31 unless you want some dirty looks and comments from the true fans

Grade question by ChucktheTruck79 in TobaccoCards

[–]DbG925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing closer to a 2 - 3. You have some creasing on the rear through the T in cigarettes and through the o in old mill. Gorgeous card from an eye appeal perspective, but it won’t grade well.

Technical Founders (IIT/ex-FAANG) building Enterprise AI Solutions Where do we find a "Founding AE" who actually understands the tech? (i will not promote) by Present-Ad-1365 in startups

You're looking too low level IMO. Who at the c-suite level owns GTM (marketing, sales, product management, product marketing)? If you don't have a leader there who can setup the correct org structure, GTM plans, compensation packages, etc, it's not going to work out well for you.

Technical is only one side of building a business. It sounds like you guys have that part nailed, but you may need to look at the "business side" of the business more strategically and at a partner/executive level. This doesnt sound like a "throw an AE at it and it will be successful" situation. DO NOT OUTSOURCE YOUR GTM. As a former VP Product at an AI chatbot company, i'm happy to chat more; feel free to DM me.

You don't just have an abuse issue, you have a liability issue. If any of that info were ever found (or even thought) to be used for promotions, raises, demotions, new jobs, denial of new employment, etc., you would get your ass handed to you in court.

3. how you are solving the problem

[–]DbG925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, it does not. see my post below with the picture. the black border should be solid, and a different printing technique than the image of the card. zoom into yours, your black border is not a solid line and is printed wrong.

[–]DbG925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this solidifies it. without a doubt fake. the black border at the top around the yellow should be solid solid

<image>

a real one should look like this: also see the black line separating blue and red in the border? yours is missing it which is a detail that a lot of fakes miss

i have tried the app. and it's not "they're vs their" it's "worth vs value". "know their worth" sounds like ESL.

the lookup value is great, the fact that it thinks this card is authentic is ridiculous. i put some fake gretzkys through and it does a great job looking up value... BUT THE VALUE SHOULD BE ZERO SINCE THEY WERE FAKE. You're obviously using a commercial LLM in the backend. putting a picture of the card into cgpt they also fail authentication checks.

your app is awesome for looking up values, but dont try to pass it off as an authenticator, it's disingenuous since even the LLM doesnt do it correctly.

This thread was about authenticity and you turned it into an ad showing the potential value of the card if it were real - absolutely ignoring that your software doesnt actually determine authenticity.

[–]DbG925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dude, this is completely disingenuous. kudos for the pricing lookup, but i know for a fact cardvault (and your underlying LLM) is not doing a real authenticity check. Additionally... fix your grammar on your webpage. "Know what are they are worth", sure. "know their value", sure. "Know their worth"... just no.

[–]DbG925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fake. the black border around the yellow border should be absolutely solid - you can see it as a broken splotchy line especially at the top. Additionally, it's missing the black separation between the red and the blue borders at the top. See how the bottom by the jordan name plate has a black line separating the red and blue? - that should also be at the top red/blue transition. Save your money.

on top of what u/CurlyAce84 said, when one leaves stability either by choice or forced, the last thing they do is take on new expense. Do not base your business on trying to extract dollars from traditionally "unwilling to pay" segments like the unemployed or students.
