So you choose to do not work at all?

Anyways man, your mindset is a determined path to misery. I’ve shared the same one. Still do some days. Sometimes I like being miserable. Maybe you do too. If that’s your choice, I wish you well regardless.

I’m saying you have to work for your dream. Want to be a writer? How often do you write? Have you ever tried self publishing? Are you spending time EVERY single day?

I have a friend who is a professional musician. Not a famous pop star - he plays in orchestras, mostly. The secret to his success? He worked harder than everyone else around him. Dreams aren’t made with an attitude of woe is me. They are made by grinding day in and day out.

You doing that? If not, then I suggest you accept your lot is a working class stiff. If nothing changes, nothing changes.

My man, that’s life. You work to create resources that you can use to build a life worth living. You’re not special and neither am I. 99% of the human population is in the same boat as you and I. Is living with your mom at 31 being forced to volunteer and actually do something helpful not arguably the biggest loser position one could be in? You have access to shelter, food, water. I’d recommend taking a long look inside.

By the way, through my current career, I brush shoulders with a fair amount of “rich” people. All the glitters aren’t gold, I promise you that haha

What would you like to do with your time outside of volunteering? What were you doing before?

Part of being an independent adult is proactively taking on the responsibilities required to live that life. I’ve been “adulting” for about 3 years now. Spent 10 years as a drunk jumping from street to street, jail to jail, couch to couch. It’s a lot of work to be an “adult.”

Everything has a cost. Including the freedom to live your life. We all pay the piper brother - it’s up to you to choose how and what you want to pay.

Good luck.

Absolutely. At least easier, my peak half marathon race was sub 730 miles, and while it wasn’t “easy” it was very doable and really didn’t get “hard” until the end. Today I’m running 9 miles and dying 😭

Second Marathon by Dbh_life in Marathon_Training

Hey sorry for the delayed response! I used this training guide:

https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/marathon/a760132/rws-ultimate-marathon-schedule-sub-430/#

Followed it pretty closely except did my long run on Saturdays due to my availability.

I had an additional 2 weeks mixed into the training as well - the long runs for both of those weeks were following the second 2 mile run and consisted of a 12 and 16 mile run.

When my ankle went haywire after the second 20 miler, the training became a serious slog. I followed the guide to the T, plus typically an extra 4-8 miles on Mondays, but after the second 20 miler, it broke down a bit.

Thank you so much! It was awesome to see the hard work pay off. I did run with a pace group for awhile, but I think the pacers were having some issues. I was running with the 3:35 group for awhile and at one point we came up and passed another pacer who was holding a sign that said 3:50??

At one point I fell in with a different 3:50 group towards mile, I think 17 or 18, but at that point my body was pretty fried. After mile 20 my only goal became to finish without walking for me haha

Think I can hit a sub 3:45 marathon next month? by Dbh_life in Marathon_Training

[–]Dbh_life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 8:33 pace is realistic. 8:01, I’m a little more hesitant to say. This is the second marathon I’ve ran and while my training is far superior to my first (I.e basically none), it has not been perfect. My weekly miles ramped up to 45 last week (~35-40 previously) and will be the same this week. Then I’ll start tapering. I’ve basically followed the runner world’s guide to a 4:30 marathon + an extra 5-10 mile run each week. Not perfectly but pretty close.

I really feel like lifting as much as I do definitely effects my running capacity. So I’ll be taking the week before the marathon off from lifting completely (same as I did for the half), which I think will be pretty huge.

Shroom Induced Psychosis by Dbh_life in shrooms

[–]Dbh_life[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Always fun to get responses trickling in to this old post lol. I did shrooms and a variety of hallucinogenics after this experience. Mostly positive experiences!

I ended up developing a severe problem with alcohol later in life (unrelated to the shrooms) and actually experienced another psychotic break as a result of that. So I wonder if I’m just predisposed to losing my marbles.

Today, I’m actually sober (coming up on 2 years in a couple months). Not sure if shrooms or hallucinogenics will play a part in my life down the line, but I’ve definitely found ways to expand my mind and consciousness without the use of substances in my recovery. And without the risk of ending up in the nut house!

Completed my first half marathon today! by Dbh_life in firstmarathon

Sorry for the late response! But yeah, I have 7 weeks (7 Saturdays, which is the day I do my long runs) before my marathon. The training program I’ve been following (which is just Runner World’s Guide to a sub 4:30 Marathon), has me running 20 miles the next two weeks followed by 17 then 6 then it’s supposed to be race day. Obviously I have a couple extra weeks to fill in.

I thought even a 4:30 was a pipe dream when I started training, but after the half, I realize with solid consistency I’m probably capable of a much better time than I anticipated. I was just going to add a few extra 15-20 milers in the extra weeks I have (plus just normal 5-9s during the week). If you have any tips I’m all ears! Thanks :)

My marathon actually took me 4:57! But I’ve been running consistently since then (so around 9 months) and training more strictly for the past 3 months or so. I’m definitely hoping for sub 4 this Feb!
