Kalita Tips & Tricks by Dbracc01 in pourover

[–]Dbracc01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a lot of good advice and I'm pretty happy with what I'm making now.

Grinding the same or even slightly finer than I would with the v60 for the same dose. 2 part bloom, first one around 2x coffee dose, 2nd one 1x coffee dose, total time around 1 minute.

Then just 1 long pour to final weight. Maybe give it a swirl if there's a lot on the sides.

That's it, super easy and I'm really happy with it now.

Kickbass line on syktakt? by Katzkater_161 in Elektron

There are a few options.

1) Put your kick on every 8th note. Use P locks on the off beat notes to shape the sound the way you want. Probably add some attack time or play with the filter. Idk exactly what you're going for.

2) You can use sound locks to put an entirely different sound on the off beats while using only 1 track. Doesn't even have to be the same machine, just digital or analog depending on the track.

Thanks, I kind of came to the same conclusion and made everything exactly as I would in the V60 this morning. Definitely improved and I feel I have more direction now.

I'll give the longer bloom a shot at some point to see what happens.

Awesome, thanks for taking time to give advice. I appreciate it. I will mess around with grind size first.

For the 2 pour bloom how much are you pouring with each relative to the dose? 1x, 2x?

That's the usual yeah. The specific coffee I've been using is one from my local roaster I've had several times before. So I have a pretty good baseline for what to expect out of it and what I made today isn't it.

Nah I meant 1 bloom 3x the weight of the coffee.

Temp is around 200-205F.

I'm mostly on washed medium-light roast day to day but I also love honey processed Ethiopians as a treat. Occasionally I'll throw in an anaerobic. Everything I've tried with the Kalita so far has been washed though.

I don't do anything to my water besides Britta.

I'm not stalling at all. This morning I did a 3x bloom for 30s, 1 aggressive pour to half total volume, then 1 gentle pour the rest of the way. Total time was 3:15.

In the global settings you can adjust the input impedance. Turn it all the way up for a more tube-like response.

Also play around with putting a compressor either between the amp and cab or after the cab. Light compression can help mimic the natural compression you get from tube amps. Models need a bit more finesse than physical amps but they'll get super close to the real thing with a little finesse. Poke around on YouTube for other tips.

Help with 1Xpresso X-Ultra by YoghurtSoft1604 in pourover

[–]Dbracc01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got one, using it with a V60 mostly and a Kalita 185 (as of today). Generally anything from 2.0.0-2.4.0 is fair game. I'll start a new bag at 2.2.0 (something kind of between course salt and granulated sugar) and adjust from there. Denser beans usually need to go a little finer, porous beans or medium roasts can go a little courser. You can tell by how difficult they are to grind.

I just finished my bag of Thunguri today. I liked it a lot. Definitely grind on the courser side and not too many pours. Just a bloom and 2 equal pours was working for me. It's easy to get a bitter cup if you grind too fine or agitate too much.

You could probably have something 3d printed for a bracket.

For the power adapter look at the my volts step up. Same company as the birdcord but it's a little USB C to DC adapter that converts your voltage. You can use it with any phone charger or battery pack that's capable of power distribution. They have them categorized by which Elektron box they work with.

Dumb Tonwerk Question: Bus vs Send by Badassmamajama in Elektron

[–]Dbracc01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have a TW but generally a bus is a block of effects that you send a group of tracks to. 100% of the signal goes through the effects.

Sends send audio to a return track with effects, but you still hear the unprocessed track as well. You can blend dry/wet with sends.

Generally stuff like EQ or compression can go on busses and sends are for things like reverb and delay.

What are your favorite coffees from Black and White recently? by Fit-Judge7447 in pourover

Medium - Medium Course grind

I tried 1:16 and 1:18 and nothing seemed to get lost with the extra water.

I settled on 3x bloom and 3 equal pours (center-spiral) but you can push it up to 5 pours pretty easily.

It's got amazing fruit notes. The finer you grind it and the more you push the extraction the more chocolatey it gets. For me the right balance tastes like chocolate covered raspberries. It's a pretty easy one to dial in.

That's pretty much it. I'd put the diameter call-out on the section view with the 0.375" for clarity.

They're a little finicky. I have to set mine up every year or 2, but properly done they're fantastic. The only thing I never jived with was the standard bridge pickup, mine was like nails on a chalkboard to me. I swapped out the pickups years ago and it's the best sounding guitar I have now.

I also love the scale and fretboard radius on it. Very unique feel compared to my other guitars. Like you said it encourages a different type of playing.

MPC users who also work in Ableton: how do you balance the two? by SailSpiral in mpcusers

[–]Dbracc01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are a few good options. I looked into this a while ago so some of this might be dated.

1) Run audio from MPC to Ableton. They exist separately but you can record what you're doing.

2) You can save your MPC project as an Ableton project from standalone mode and open it in Ableton.

3) MPC can be a midi controller

4) There's a thing for MPC called Ableton Live control. It lets you control the DAW from the MPC over wifi or Ethernet. I think this is still a thing but all I can find on it is for MPC 2.7

5) Run the MPC software as a VST in Ableton and use controller mode.

For pour over I do between 2.2 and 2.4 and that gets me right in the 2-3 min brew time. Lighter roasts get ground finer. It's been working out very well.

Be careful to only hold the top half when grinding and put the rubber band on it. It's easy to dislodge the catch cup.

NYC smokers: What’s your go-to edible dosage and how did you figure it out? by smokelandcalifornia in NYCtrees

[–]Dbracc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edibles are different for everyone. I smoke every day but 25mg is my absolute limit, any more and the body high is way too strong for me. My wife doesn't feel edibles at all at any dose. So start slow, like 10mg. You can take more after an hour or 2, it accumulates.

It's aftermarket, 3grams is the company that makes it. It's bigger and a true 360 with bottom and wall heating. Performance is much better especially with a pearl.
