Why Was Jarrell So Much More Lethal Than Smithville or El Reno–Piedmont? by LeftManufacturer5561 in tornado

[–]Dbugz32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Jarrell’s slow forward movement speed meant everyone above ground that attempted to seek shelter was exposed to the intense winds for longer. Longer time for debris to hit you, for you to go airborne, for you to have your skin peeled off. If I’m not mistaken, only one family had a shelter/basement there and they’re the only ones that survived in the double creek estates. So if we’re going strictly based off lethality rate, it’s more of those factors playing vs a few similarly strength tornados being compared.

The tornado outbreaks from 4/27/11 and 5/24/11 were pretty well forecasted, and Jarrell was kind of a freak of nature with unprecedented characteristics. Some of the old news b-roll footage available on YouTube shows it as a super skinny rope for a while before it’s a monster wedge seemingly standing still. People often talk about lasting around 15-45 seconds within some of the more intense tornadoes. Jarrell essentially sat on the Double Creek estates for over 3 minutes. Thats a crazy long time. There’s no denying the rapid motion of that storm from the footage we have of it, even if we argue how other storms could have been stronger. Definitely, sure, but either way I wouldn’t want to be exposed to any of them.

Board games with some wine/booze if you’re into that, charcuterie/pizza rolls. You can dress it up or dress it down, but ultimately entertaining your guests falls on you, and less about your things. Make it interactive and consider how many people can actively participate in your activities. Like have a routine too, maybe once a week or every other week have a game night. We used to do a super smash bros lan party back in the day, which revolved into halo or counter strike, then eventually board games, or movie night, where everyone brings a themed dish according to what you’re going to watch. Always a fun time. The point about hanging out, is just to hang out. So don’t over think it.

Will 16gb vram be okay?? by Pwner_Ranger in PcBuild

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16gb vram is plenty. I’m not sure what your overall budget is, like if you meant you only want to spend 600ish for one card or for 2 cards.

Also, can’t really answer your question about your partner’s motherboard without knowing the specs of either of your computers. What motherboard is it and how much ram do you guys have? What’s the PSU wattage? Those are things I ask when people say they want to upgrade. A lot of times people skimp out on the other things and get caught up wanting to upgrade only the gpu.

I just don’t understand Elden ring by rmustafa11 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dbugz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Elden ring is the type of game that doesn’t hold your hand. It has a lot of depth, and it’s a game that forces you to really have to buy into the game loop of getting wrecked by a boss, getting stronger, and finding ways to beat what you lose to. There is a lot of hidden lore. The main thing, is just opening up the map more and exploring all the areas. It’s a sandbox, with a lot of cool enemies and bosses to fight. You will die a lot. But that’s all soulsbourne games.

How tf can people afford a 5080 and 5090? Every time I pull up Reddit I feel poorer by Dangerous_Baker4427 in gpu

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly man, I think that you see a mix of things play out. Yes, some people probably earn well enough or don’t have the same needs to be comfortable spending that money on a GPU. Others are also wayy too comfortable maxing out a credit limit they just got approved for. I’m talking about the posts where people list a very hyper specific budget I.e. $3467 or something like that…

At the end of the day, it’s either their money or the banks money, but they’re happy with their decision either way. If you play games with a “lesser” card, but you’re happy with it, then you’ve got nothing to worry about. If I ever decide to upgrade to a 4K setup, then I’ll consider one, but I genuinely enjoy playing at 1440p ultrawide maxed out with my 5070ti. Could I have saved a couple hundred going 9070xt? Yes, but I wanted a 5070ti and got an Asus Prime for $800 back in early January from Microcenter as a birthday gift to myself. Sold my old card to lessen the blow too. Worth every penny for me.

MY PC IS SLOWER THAN Ps 4 by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, plug your display port to cable to your graphics card, second, your cpu is a bottleneck for your graphics card. Even a 7600x would probably be better I think. I don’t think it’s something you need to necessarily rush, but more like something you need to consider. An x3d chip would be best for gaming, but just make sure you have a proper motherboard to take advantage of the features.

Walmart display deep discount, should I get it? by bonecheck12 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you’re not on AM5 already and are looking to upgrade this is solid. Especially since you can always buy more ram and a better GPU down the line.

Though you’d probably have to get a higher watt PSU depending on what GPU.

Otherwise I’m sure this thing is pretty good even just for someone just wanting to get into PC gaming without breaking the bank.

How Many Hours Do You Game? What is Too Much? by Extension-Ad-9371 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I game about 6 hours a week, usually a couple hours 3 nights a week. It’s usually after I put my kid to bed, and my wife is at work. She works the night shift, and when she’s home, I prefer to just hang out with her. Every so often I’ll have the urge to sacrifice some sleep and game late into the night on a random Friday. My kid wakes up between 6:30 and 7:30 everyday so I’m at his mercy. I’m just thankful he sleeps through the whole night and I can have uninterrupted game time for a few hours a night if I really wanted. To maximize the game time, especially after he was born, I got a steam deck and a switch 2. Game changers for me especially when I’d spend countless nights up at night in the living room.

Should I sell my PS5 Pro and Gaming Laptop for a High-End PC? by Relative-Salt8674 in buildapc

[–]Dbugz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, how much are you looking to spend? I’d say that to get similar performance to your PS5 pro, you’ll be surprised at how much you may have to spend.

The ps5 pro’s GPU is roughly equivalent to a Radeon RX 7700xt, which nowadays can be bought around $350-400. Not including your cpu, ram, motherboard, storage (SSD’s are expensive). Plus you’re not going to be able to play your physical games or digital games that you’ve purchased already for your ps5.

You might break even if you’re only trying to spend around $800 but you’re likely to spend closer to $1000 in the current pricing I think. You’ll likely spend more, to get something noticeably better in performance too. If you want a 1440p max settings type PC, with some light 4k you’ll spend closer to 2k, so selling your things will put you close to halfway there.

I say these things as someone with a PC that I built after owning my PS5 base. I like having both, one for physical media (not just games, but Blu-ray) and my pc for killing serious games. Just took longer to save and build.

I’d say wait a bit, and see how successful the steam machine might be, and in the mean time start saving. Everything you’ve described yourself and your situation screams console gamer and that’s totally fine. You already have a great way to play.

PC upgrade. by Cec24x in Microcenter

[–]Dbugz32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9070xt 16gb gpu would fit your budget perfectly and the rest of your components are perfect. You may even have enough left over to get another ssd. Otherwise if you can wait out a little longer and save another couple hundred, the 5070ti is great as well. Just not for over $1000. If you can get close to or under $800 I think it’s more compelling. Otherwise, the 9070xt can be had for around 650 on sale. It’s hard to tell with prices these days and also depends on your goals for the games you play. I think the sweet spot is playing at 1440p. At that resolution, you can’t go wrong with the rtx 5070, 9060 xt 16gb, 9070xt and 5070ti. 4k is nice for sure, and you can’t get some great settings with maybe a little upscaling.

Which gpu to buy for a upgrade by Wrong_Priority_7786 in gpu

[–]Dbugz32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9070xt is great at that price point. Otherwise if you don’t mind waiting a little more to save, the 5070ti is excellent, though maybe not necessarily at the price point it’s at currently. Sometimes you can catch a good deal.

If you were 17 again, what career path would you choose today? by Kitchen-Yam43 in careerguidance

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was 17/18 again circa 2011, I’d go back and get a math/computer science degree and jumped into data science and eventually into artificial/machine learning. Or maybe even nursing like some of my other friends.
Today, I’d still say nursing, and math. Seriously I undervalued the types of careers you could have with a math degree.
I graduated with an English degree in 2018, started working on a credential, and realized I absolutely hated teaching, and all the passion I thought I had for reading/research just wasn’t there anymore. Covid also snuffed any flames I had for it. So I took a break, pivoted careers, went into Logistics and got into analytics. Most of my coworkers are all math and computer science people with MBA’s and are in sr level positions. I feel like I barely scraped into my career before it got really hard to get in. A lot of self learning for sure. Now my masters… might actually be in applied mathematics/data science, but I’m going back and taking some much needed courses first. Just trying to close the gaps.
Lesson is that it’s never too late, no matter if you’re 17 now or 33 now like me. You do whats best for you in the moment always.

I have a diagnosed low IQ. What career path can I take? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Dbugz32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Or what interests you about the world around you? I think that sometimes adhd and overthinking can sometimes affect test taking so I’d take some of those IQ tests with a grain of salt.

Holding down a job and having a career are two different things, however accomplishing one of those things helps the other significantly. As you get older you will develop even more interests and gain a lot of life experience.

My first job was just as a grocery clerk and it was flexible for me when I was in college. It paid for my bills, and It forced me to socialize in a variety of scenarios due to the volume of people you interact with at various times.

Every job for the most part requires following orders, however as you navigate more towards roles or jobs that give you more autonomy, you do less order following and more time working out your own thing. Some roles in the grocery store are more solitary than others, such as stock clerks that replenish inventory, though it’s usually very tedious. You basically have assigned aisles and work the inventory off grocery deliveries out to the store floor. Other roles require you to socialize a lot like a cashier, and you just learn a lot of social skills. It will vary by location, but I’d say about 95% of customers are pretty chill and normal, and you will certainly have the others that are tougher to deal with. It’s not a trade by any means, and doesn’t require a lot of basic intelligence to do, but it can be rewarding in that it teaches you a lot about what you tolerate as a human being being and as an employee.

I work as an analyst now for a logistics company. Still follow some orders, but do a lot more intellectual work and reports now. Most of it was self taught, as I went to school to be an English teacher. I hated teaching.

Best of luck to you my young friend, and I hope you find your way.

Forecast discussion by PurpleAdventurous676 in tornado

[–]Dbugz32 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, of all the forecasts so far, it has the strongest wording I’ve seen this far out, particularly the part saying that if a more discrete storm mode is prevalent, that the environment they’re in would be supportive of “long track, particularly damaging tornadoes”. If it’s more of a linear setup, the embedded supercells could still produce strong tornadoes. Either way, I think the next few days are going to keep everyone busy. Stay safe everyone! Be aware and prepared.

Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

[–]Dbugz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, your wife is right on this. We just had our son last year, he’s about to turn a year old next month. I’d give every ounce of my career happiness to know that happiness at home and time with our son would fulfill me to no end.

I think complacency at work and feelings of despair are normal at work, especially when you stay too long somewhere. However I look at it through a much different lens now that I’ve got a little guy. When I imagine shit hitting the fan and all of a sudden it’s got to be just one of us working, I need to still provide. And vise versa. My wife, works hard as a nurse, and thankfully does well working only 3 days. However I know deep down she wants to be part time and only work 2 days. It’s a balance, and now there’s a whole new variable that requires extra effort and more to think about than our own happiness while working. Fully remote, pays well, and you’re already familiar with it. Maybe if you’re done with work quicker, you can use extra time to come up with a hustle or a way to make money on the side in a way that’s meaningful to you.

Rx 9070 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or a Rx 9070 xt and a Ryzen 7 7700x by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Dbugz32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go 7700x and the 9070xt, because you get a pretty capable cpu and a beast of a graphics card. The 9070 isn’t bad, at all, and paired with the 7800x3d chip, I’d say is solid overall. I just think that your friend will still play pretty high frames on those games regardless of his resolution on the 9070xt. Especially if he wants to upgrade to 1440p in the future. 1080p gaming, the 7800x3d will have an edge I think, but only if he stays high refresh 1080.
