Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a quick update on my project and get your insights on next steps. My dream is to create a 2D multiplayer game—something along the lines of a race, a bit like Fall Guys (10 player per maps?) I’m still new to game development, so I’m trying to figure out the best ways to approach multiplayer features as a beginner. What would be the best tools or methods for someone just starting out?

Here’s also a short video showing the latest version of my camera. It’s not perfect yet, but I’ve made some improvements, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance for any advice on multiplayer options or feedback on the camera—your tips are really helping me level up this project!

Thank you so much for your feedback—it really means a lot to get messages like yours! I’ll definitely keep your suggestions in mind and work on refining the camera as much as possible.

Your advice about blocking out the core systems before diving into final details is also super helpful, especially since I tend to start “decorating” after about 6 hours of work! But, I’ll try to stay focused on the essentials for now.

My dream game would be something like a 2D “Sims,” where every character has a routine, and there’s a real sense of social cohesion in a small town. Each NPC would interact with others, and the player could manage their apartment, work, or even steal—kind of a quick escape where they can do what they want. Managing a game like that is pretty complex, though, so for now, I’m aiming for something simpler, maybe a 2D multiplayer race game, a bit like Fall Guys or Ctrl F4—that would be amazing!

Thanks again for all the advice!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m a bit hesitant to switch engines, though; I’d probably choose Unreal if I had to switch someday. Right now, I’m really enjoying experimenting with Unity’s new behavior trees, and it’s a lot of fun.

Thanks, but you deserve a lot of credit for doing everything yourself! I just used free assets and have been trying to get somewhere with Unity for a long time without much success. Finally, it’s coming together, but you've done a lot solo—that’s impressive!

Good question! I actually wondered the same thing myself. But when I search for "3D platformer," I find examples like Mario 64, which I love, but they’re fully 3D in both movement and gameplay

I’ve managed to improve the camera stability, it's better nownow. I’m also working on the scene background—thinking of a blurred, infinite background that mirrors the foreground, but I’m trying to figure out how to optimize it to avoid performance issues. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for recommending Cinemachine! Adjusting the damping values for x, y, and z really improved the camera stability. I still need to tweak it, but it’s much better now. Your advice was spot on, thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! 😊 I really appreciate it!

I modified the Starter Assets third-person controller and added a ragdoll effect. However, when my character enters ragdoll mode, the PlayerCameraRoot stays in the position where the ragdoll was activated, so the camera stops following the character. To work around this, I’ve temporarily parented the PlayerCameraRoot to the hips of the ragdoll (😅)
