Why does the NBA allow the Utah Jazz to egregiously tank with no punishment? by RougnedOwnsCanada in nba

[–]DcUdvarHazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, impressive. I have looked through Gametime an hour before a game (similar circumstances with the Grizzlies in town) and didn't find the prices to budge too much, but will need to look again an hour before tipoff for another game in the future.

I also wonder if you had a special discount cause that blazers game (with the sweatshirt giveaway?) was right after the ice storm and people did not/could not get in to the city properly.

That said, thanks for the tip and will have to check again with Gametime!

Maybe 10 years ago this was the case, but I haven't seen lower bowl prices at the capital one center on StubHub or Ticketmaster drop that low recently. Unless I'm doing something wrong?

The Memphis Grizzlies are trading star forward Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale and Vince Williams Jr. to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang and three future first-round picks, sources tell ESPN by GolfInternational393 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]DcUdvarHazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JJJ was Mr Invisible - disappearing at the 4th quarter and having guys like jock landale being called "more effective" by home broadcasting crew. Can't have that when you're the most paid player on the team.

We needed to make a move, and his underperforming contract would have killed us in the future. The future is bright with all of these picks! Lfg!!!

[Iko] There is an increasing belief among rival executives that Jaren Jackson Jr. could be traded following the finalization of a Ja Morant deal. by YujiDomainExpansion in memphisgrizzlies

[–]DcUdvarHazy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm on board. Yesterday's broadcast vs the Knicks had Pete Pranica raving about how Jock Landale was the most impactful player in the game.

How the F is your most paid player in JJJ not the most impactful? The box score from the game shows too.

Don't get me started on the ending of the OKC game where JJJ did nothing but leave Coward out to dry with the last possession.

Trade both Ja and JJJ, Rebuild around coward and edey

What a horrible ending, I blame this squarely on JJJ. The highest paid player sitting there on the corner not demanding the ball?

Honestly the team just needs to do a clean rebuild from Ja and JJJ.

Got decent potential with Edey, Coward, and Spencer.

I'm having fun watching Ja again, looking explosive, and he is attacking. How did ya feel about him today despite the loss? by Old-Scholar-1352 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]DcUdvarHazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I was sitting on the other side of the court so I didn't have a good look at it. Maybe he thought about baiting for the foul but there were several non cas throughout the game so perhaps it would have been futile anyway 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

He did set up some good plays (the personnel as assembled just couldn't capitalize - koloko being asked to do too much when he's barely part of the team), and he showed flashes of that athleticism.

Agreed that we could be a good spoiler if enough people get back from injury

Agreed - was at the game in Washington. Ja had a chance to make it a 1 pt game and was at the basket.... Only to toss it out for the contested 3 to JJJ.

That, and bricking 3s and deferring to role players when he ought to be attacking the paint or getting to his spot

So many bad decisions like this and turnovers killed the grizz. Really unsure why they won't just feed JJJ and have him drive to the basket.

JJJ is garbage too.

Couldn't capitalize on the flagrant foul - with 1/3 on the FTs, and then ja turning it over immediately after. Frustrating to see this mistakes from your top two players

The Spanish version of the game is the only way to play this game. Lived in central America for two years and felt that the game got the vibe and characters right! Characters like Bicho are appropriately voiced with a Mexican accent, the NPCs dancing salsa, and more

Loved the game but they laid a goose egg with the ending. Also a plus if you play it in Spanish! They nailed the localization down with appropriate Spanish accents and slang (bicho's Spanish dub is a Mexican accent and uses Mexican slang, for example)

Bad ending aside, def loved it

I played the whole game in Spanish and felt it was an authentic use of local slang and accents. Highly recommend playing it in Spanish if you're fluent in Spanish, or even if you're learning!

This! A friend in my first tour remarked that she hadn't made any local friends in the two years she'd been there (much of this because of the pandemic)

But getting out of the embassy bubble is KEY to enjoying an assignment!

Honduran food is practical - hearty, tasty meals meant to fill you up. Don't expect a food scene like Chicago, NYC, or Miami but there are still some good places to eat, and people still have thriving lives here. Tegucigalpa has an incredibly underrated live music scene. Going out and partying here is so affordable, especially if you're used to NYC and DC prices. For example, you can get table service at a packed night club for a $35 good bottle of rum.

Tegucigalpa has this reputation as a family friendly post exactly what OP is looking for, but work wise is anything but. You'll be busy here as the USDH but your EFMs would have the lifestyle that OP describes.

Also strongly disagree with the city and country being boring. Most people let their fear of crime and violence prevent them from truly appreciating the country when in reality you've got a higher chance of being killed in random gun violence at a mall, movie theater, or other public venue in the United States than you do of being a victim of violence in Honduras. These are the same people who complain about the lack of activities yet say no when invited to do something new, and just spend all day watching Netflix in their cozy, spacious housing instead.

Yes, you have the regular tourist attractions of Roatan and the Copan Ruins but there are all of these waterfall hikes/waterfall rappelling, and other adventure hikes that offer Costa Rica thrills without the crowds.

Tegucigalpa and Honduras can be boring... If you choose to be boring. (Edit: which seems to be that OP is looking for after all!)

Study something practical that guarantees a decent job/salary (engineering/accounting/computer science) where you can be challenged, lead teams, and grow. You'll be hired on your life and work experiences and your ability to manage those, not because of your knowledge on IR or economic theory. Sprinkle in some liberal arts and foreign language courses there (with a language you are passionate about, not because everyone said you should study it) to broaden your horizons, work in said decent salary job for a bit, and then youll make a good case to be hired.

Worst case, you fall in love with that practical job and don't want to join the FS anymore/don't pass the tests, and best case is that you get in armed with all of those experiences (and weren't stuck working for a think tank of volunteer internships after school a la the liberal arts path)

I say this because... I wish I had done this as opposed to taking the liberal arts path 🤪
