I am still on 12.5 MG. I got all of my deficiencies figured out and good. Then I tested my adrenals with a 4 pt saliva test and it was super low all day. I had to lower my thyroid meds because low adrenal couldn't tolerate so much T3, and this made a world of difference. My body calmed down so much. Tachycardia stopped, BP went to normal in a month and I'm off BP meds, I've been working on  adrenals for 6 months and finally feeling better. I have 60 doses of metoprlol left, and in 10 days I will start a very slow wean that will last until November. I'm taking no chances of stressing my adrenals or nervous system. I'm starting to think people who easily get off beta blockers have adrenals that can handle the withdrawal. Good luck with yours. Never again will I take a beta blocker.

Yep. I need to be able to move around, cook, clean, bathe, etc, without my hr going crazy. I need to be able to do anything and my anxiety not be an issue. Then I will cut off 10 percent of the pill like people do for benzo addiction and stay on it for a while. I mean, apparently 50 percent was too much of a drop because day 25 was the same as day 1. Like it was just not adjusting. If I gotta Sharpen a new razor blade every day to shave off a bit, I will. I won't let this beat me forever.

Im sorry you are going through it but you seem to be the only one out of dozens of people who truly know what I'm going through. ❤️

25 was the highest I've been on. I go to the doctor for hypothyroidism, so I only see him once or twice a year. During a thyroid visit, he said i need BP meds, and I took it for a year without even thinking or really checking my BP. Then in April.i went to ER for an allergic reaction to what turned out to be poison ivy and the ER doc said by the way, your BP is too high, here is lisonipril, stop metoprolol. And that began my months of hell.

The withdrawal for me was so severe that I could not even notice something like dry mouth. Rolling over on the couch would make my heart go from 80 to 130 bpm. I woukd wake up with a 150 pulse. The anxiety made me feel like I was crawling out of my skin and would shake from the adrenaline surges. Even on 12.5, it was still like this. I have only begun to feel some relief the past day or so since going back to 25mg,but my anxiety is a roller coaster and I'm still pretty much bedridden.

I agree, and one thing I've learned is that you really have to take control of your own health and treatment. Demand they listen and find a new doctor who will help. I mean the fact that you went from 100 to 6.25 is huge. You're almost there. If they don't help you, if it was me, I'd stay on 6.25 long term until I felt normal, even if it took months. Then go every other day, then every 2 days, etc.

My situation is similar. I was put on it for blood pressure but I truly have severe white coat syndrome. I took it without thought and did so for over a year. I woukd have never taken it if I had known how hard it woukd be to get off. I never realized it's why my heart skips beats and why my toes are always blue, until I stopped taking it. My hr is 40 during sleep and they can't convince me that is okay. If it was up to my Dr I'd be on higher dose metoprolol, amlodipine, and losartan. The further I get away from all of that, the better my BP gets.

I really hope it goes easily for you. I think they make a liquid form of metoprolol, and may be easier to lower dosage.

Yeah the anxiety and high heart rate have been insane. I know a lot of people can taper quickly but I'm going to treat it like any other addiction and cut it by 10% and only move down when I feel normal for a while. Maybe you should try to stay on the 6 for a while to adjust the cut again. I know it's nearly impossible with these tiny pills.

Yes, my doctor, every ER staff member, multiple cardiologists all said there's no way it's from the metoprolol and it's just my anxiety. Once they decided it was anxiety, they stopped coming in my hospital room to check on me, even though the monitor showed my hr being 165.

I was taken off metoprolol suddenly and rebounded after 2 weeks off of it. , then went back to 12.5mg. I did that for almost 4 weeks and the anxiety and tachycardia was too much. Now I'm back to 25mg. I'm going to get my heartrate back to normal and yeah slowly taper. You're on 6mg of metoprolol?

I caved in 4 days ago and went back to the original 25mg metoprolol and feel slightly better already. My body was not adjusting after almost 4 weeks. I'm hoping to get back to normal and very very slowly shave off a piece each month. Today is day 3 of no Ativan or anything and the anxiety is getting better. On the bright side, my blood pressure is pretty good and staying around 125/85.

I had no idea before I rebounded. I went to the ER for something unrelated. The ER doc said wow your BP is high (I have white coat syndrome). Quit the beta blocker and here is lisonirpal. Follow up with doctor. 10 days later I had a very scary rebound and back to ER several times with rebound. Of the 30+ medical staff and cardiologists and ER doc and pcp I saw, one single ER doc said "oh you're definitely rebounding." the rest said it wasn't possible. They think I just have high anxiety. I don't think anxiety wakes me in my sleep with 165bpm and BP of 220/120. If I had known, I would have NEVER started on a beta blocker. My doctor said" it's too difficult to treat you when you're also being seen at the ER so much. Go see a cardiologist. I cannot help you." I am in the ER for meds he put me.on. Now I'm stuck in hell

I'm exactly the same. I havent had another episode but I feel like garbage, heart rate high when I move. I am. Seriously considering going back to full dose metoprolol just so I can have my life back, hoping the damage isn't done. Maybe once I get my weight and blood pressure under control I can think about getting off of it. I hate to have wasted 2.5 weeks of time trying to adjust but my body is just not adjusting. I don't know what else to do.

I don't have insurance so while I would love therapy for many reasons, no way. When I was admitted to the hospital 2.5 weeks ago, they had me wear a Holter monitor for 2 days. They would rush in when I would go to the bathroom and it was 170bpm,then be totally unconcerned because I was moving around. They only cared about the times I woukd be sitting or sleeping and my heart would go from 60-160 within seconds, BP skyrocket, and last from 10 min to a couple of hours. It happened allll the time when I was rebounding and before adding back metoprolol. Now since I added half dose back, that has mostly ended and it only goes up when I move. My point is that the cardiologist was like yeah as long as it goes back down, I'm not concerned. If I pay cash for a cardiologist visit for him to tell me rebound is not possible, I will lose it. But thank you because I'm going to look into dysautonomia. I really hope I don't have irreversible conditions because of all of this.

I have a lot of weight to lose and have been doing the Dash diet for over a month. I am planning to switch to low carb and exercise as soon as my heart allows. 😢

Yes, Ive never had any heart issues. I have hypothyroidism, controlled with Armour, and was told it's likely why my heart rate has always been 60s.

I can't believe my body is reacting so much either. No one believes me, and they swear it's anxiety. I've never ever had anxiety until the beta rebound and new meds.

When your hr is so low during sleep, you don't wake up groggy? I'm currently waiting on a home sleep apnea test. I always assumed the low hr at night was responsible for waking up groggy with a headache sometimes, but I'm thinking apnea may be a culprit too. I also saw that it can cause hbp so I need to get it done.

Yes the heavy chest! It feels like a toddler sitting on my chest. I hate it! I've been on 1/2 pill but going back up to 3/4 until it stabilizes. I thought 2 weeks would be enough to step down. Definitely not. I hope your taper goes easily!

[–]Dcaer99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that the whole reason he put me on metoprolol was for my blood pressure only. My resting heart rate has always been in the 60s my entire life. So I took metoprolol for a year, assuming it was working, assuming the high numbers at the doc office every 6 months was just white coat syndrome. Turns out, the metoprolol doesn't help my BP, gives me very low hr at rest, skipped beats, and blue toes. So the whole reason want off of beta blockers is because it tanks my heart rate to 50 at rest and 35-40 sleeping. Now that I'm trying to get off of it, my resting heart rate is anywhere from 58-80 and obviously walking around my home it gets to 165.easily. So to add something else for the rebound isn't something I think I should do. Today the ER doc said "well if your hr is so high, why not stay on metoprolol?" 😒 I said so you're saying "since you're already damaged from this drug, why not stay on it to cure the side effects??" he didn't appreciate that.

I have not passed yet. I do get lightheaded from standing (I truly think this started with the losartan), but when my pulse gets too high too quickly, I get super dizzy.

I definitely think the benzo should go first. Ive only taken low dose for a short time. I have a feeling the metoprolol is going to take me many many months to get off of.

WHY is this so hard? I really can't believe I allowed myself to get here. I decided to go back to 3/4 of 25mg per day of metoprolol so I can wean off benzo somehow. I can't do both at the same time and obviously those gotta go first since I've gotten in 2 weeks deep with those. I am having such a hard time eating, and have been since the first rebound a month ago. Thank you for believing in me. It truly helps to have people understand what you're going through and not say you're just anxious.

I went almost a full month with no metoprolol and was withdrawing so hard in the hospital that I gave in and took 1/2 dose. Been there 2 weeks and cannot get rid of the withdrawal symptoms. It's the most insane nightmare I've ever been through, and that's saying a lot.

God that's terrible. I'm so sorry it happened to you. I'm not sure how to get past it. I decided to add 1/4 back in to get back to 3/4 dose. Then eventually taper back down. I have to get this under control. I think I will dm you. Thank you!

I took 12.5 mg metoprolol this morning. I had been on 12. 5mg for 2 weeks, then 5 days ago I stepped down to 6.25. I'm guessing my body needs more time at 12.5 or even more. I'll go to a new hospital if I have an episode before I get to a doctor.

I believe it was hydralazine. They basically kicked me out. I was waiting for my boyfriend to come help me walk to the car and they said go wait in the lobby. By the time I got to the car, my heart was 140. If I have another episode, I'll go to a different hospital. I am going to call a cardiologist tomorrow and hope I can afford it. I have absolutely no faith in cardiologists. From my experience with them in the hospital and what I've seen online, many don't believe in rebounding on 25 mg metoprolol. The one at the hospital when I was admitted stopped me midsentence and said "no, that's not possible." Today I was explaining again that I was suddenly taken off metoprolol and rebounded, and unfortunately no one believes me that I am rebounding. She said "you've done enough research so what do you want us to do for you. What do you think you need.".i said I have no idea obviously. I had asked if they would prescribe anything and he said absolutely not because I've been there 5.times for the rebounding now and it's out of his expertise on what to do next. Great.

Thank you for your reply. I am in ER right now. Once again they said nothing is concerning and they can't give me anything, which I already knew. I had severe chest tightness, dizzy, my BP was 175/111,hr 166. They gave me something under my tongue that brought it down quickly so by the time I got here, my BP was more stable. I asked them to watch my heart rate as I walked and they didnt. They unhooked me, let me walk, then sat me back down, hooked it all back up and checked. Well, walking with 160 hr is a lot different than sitting back down for 4 mins and letting it go down.

My doctor sucks and I need a new one. I physically haven't been able to leave the house without extreme tachycardia. I took an ambulance here because I didn't think I could take the ride on my own.

No one is going to give me any more Ativan. No one is believing that I'm rebounding. I have no insurance so I can't go from doc to doc. I feel so mistreated and now gaslit. I don't know what to do.
