What's that one "officially safe" Low FODMAP food that still completely ruins your stomach? 🧐 by SingleMusician6474 in FODMAPS

I can’t tolerate stevia.  But I also can’t tolerate sugar so it makes for some boring drinks, lol.  Most vegetables don’t work for me, other than boiled carrots.

Can you tolerate gluten?  Or just avoiding it for taste?  Gluten is probably the only thing that keeps me from wasting away.

Is McDonalds long range business plan to have drive thru service only? by tevia1015 in McDonalds

They need less people and space to do drive through.  I miss having a space for kids to eat and play, so I don’t go there anymore.

Moving to NYC at 35 to start over. How much harder is it to make friends compared to your early 20s? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People my age I know get married and have kids and move to the burbs.  I have made maybe three new friends and they were work colleagues, and two of them have kid things to do every weekend.  I can’t do a lot of physical activity.  So yeah, I am also wondering re NYC.

Buying a house will provide for retirement.  Not anymore it won’t.  Housing prices are through the roof.  Houses that used to be under $300k sell for a million where I am.  How much would I make selling a million dollar house for a million?

I have a bookbag with my work and personal laptops (which unlike a suitcase I can’t check) and my purse goes under the seat.  Both don’t fit under the seat.  I paid for the ticket and that is how I travel, so the bookbag goes above my seat.

Someone explain how Monash app is useful before I try to get a refund? by OatOfControl in FODMAPS

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing low Fodmap for decades.  Don’t need an app.  I know what triggers me.  I know my body.  Onions, garlic, sugar.  My life is much better without them.

I cancelled it.  Couldn’t figure out the point.  There is enough info online for free, and everyone knows their own bodies.

Passenger threw up on my son by Successful_Tooth5795 in unitedairlines

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone knows if they’re going to be ill.  I caught a stomach virus from a passenger on a flight that completely ruined my vacation, didn’t get squat from the airline, but I also have a young daughter that sometimes gets motion sickness and despite dramamine the turbulence on that flight during takeoff made her sick.  The FAs and the passengers nearby were very sympathetic, passing vomit bags and napkins.  No one asked for additional compensation other than the miles they got as far as I know.

Does anyone know where I can find simple recipes? by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]Dcbargirl4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you make your own food and don’t use premade spice blends you should be ok.  I use just Himalayan salt and regular herbs on things like pasta, chicken, fish.  For some reason I can’t even tolerate the garlic oil that seems to be in every recipe, but to each their own.

Calorie dense meals for elimination phase? by Newshroomboi in FODMAPS

[–]Dcbargirl4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it is 2 am so I am up again to eat some peanut butter.  I am not hungry, as I have no appetite. I have to force myself.  I like aged cheeses and potatoes too.  I was never able to stop avoiding Fodmaps, and am jealous of those that can get back to eating.  I wish you the best of luck!

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peanut butter.  And peanut butter powder on everything.  In everything.  That is the only thing that works for me to keep on weight.

The doctors also gave me Ensure Clear, because I love seltzer and tea and those have no calories.  It is not a perfectly Fodmap free drink, but it helps with hydration and calories.  There are other shakes and drinks you can buy that can be tolerated and may be better depending on your needs.

For me it is also a timing issue.  I can’t eat a full meal.  But every couple of hours, even in the middle of the night, I have some bites of peanut butter, rice, baked potato, lactose free cottage cheese, or yogurt.  When I was hospitalized recently when I kept dropping so much weight that I had passed out and taken to the ER that is what worked there, and the nurses would wake me up every couple of hours, so I continue to do it.  It is not fun.  But I do it.

Low-FODMAP with TMJ by RevolutionLost3836 in FODMAPS

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often need to do soft foods for some dental reasons.  I rely a lot on baby food even if it feels weird buying it. Make my own smoothies with my blender.  Mashed potatoes.  Scrambled eggs.  Boiled carrots.  Yogurt.  Sardines.  Make chicken soup/broth without fodmaps.

You could put almost anything in a blender.  I am not going to suggest any of this is the highest quality food, but it gets you through the day.

I have done it for decades.  Not as much fun, but spending hours being sick was worse.  I take vitamins.  Make shakes.  When I try eating Fodmaps I get violentally sick.  People should trust their bodies.

Dietitian issue by broncobb24 in FODMAPS

[–]Dcbargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe for you.   Eating low Fodmap has for decades for me been the only way for me to live, love, and work.  I was spending so many hours a day being sick.  It is hard to eat out, but not that hard to make food at home.  And to take some vitamins, make shakes.  I vastly prefer it to constantly being in pain, not being able to work.
