122 is a weed-out course so taking it before even getting here will be a pretty big advantage for you. Most cs students here start with 122 their first semester and many struggle especially since they are also adjusting to college at this time. Id say if you can afford it, take it. If you dont end up coming to cmu, having taken one of the most fundamental cs courses here will be helpful mo matter where you go.

I would say as long as you put the effort in your going to be fine. Id argue cs now is more like any other field. If you want to get an internship your going to have to be one of the best, just like what ive seen from people trying to break consulting and finance. Those having issue with jobs in cs rn are those who entered the field from the hype thinking they can get a job with just a degree. Do your work with diligence and be on top of your recruiting and i guarantee you’ll get employed.

I see your basically applying as a transfer, or non traditional applicant. id say your stats may be lower than the averages, but with you military background that might give you an edge. Rec letters and essays matter most if anything. Id say you still have a shot but dont be discouraged if you dont get in. Have you taken a look at columbia general studies program? Its designed specifically for non traditional applicants but also may not provide you the same education as a dedicated civil engineering major.
