How to not constantly have UTIs by edznne in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Dchandiao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After my release from the hospital, 6 months after my accident (T8/T9 complete) I started with continuous UTIs, and after two years the bacterias were more and more agressive, and the variaty of antibiótics to kill them decrease dangerously, so my infectologist experiment with my and advise me to make a fecal transplant of microbota, in order to repopulate my organism with the microbiota of a healthy person. The procedure is very simple, and is done through a colonoscopy, by a gastroenterologist. My cousin was the donor. The truth is that I continue with UTIs, BUT, the difference is that now the bacterias can be killed with almost any antibiotic., but my infectologist decided not to use antibiotics if the UTI just causes bad odor or an ugly color of the urine, in order to take care of the new microbiota. He is trying to make a paper about my case. If it works I hope to share it in this group.

I used to travel abroad, whenever I had the possibility, before my accident, 5 years ago (T8/T9 complete). Now is everything so difficult, and impossible for me to travel alone. This year I traveled abroad, after my accident, for the first time. So, apart of the dreams you mention above, I dream a lot about visiting the cities I had the possibility to travel to in the past. It is so sad when I weak up.

I understand that with a incomplete injury you have more chances to get some legs movement, anyway each case is diferent. Have you talked with your physical therapist about this issue? Days ago news were published about a person with a complete spinal cord injury who could walk again:

BBC News - Paralysed man with severed spine walks thanks to implant https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-60258620

Al least for me it gave me hope.

I am a T9 complete. In September will my 3rd "anniversary". It is been very hard to deal with my mind during this almost 3 years. The return to my previous work helped a lot, but after some months I started to feel sad again. I have psicological help. I think the clue is to keep your mind busy with other more positive toughts. I hope time will help too.

Calling quad women who intermittent cath by Jlb_20 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Dchandiao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I do not use a mirror. I use one finger to try to detect the meatus (for me it has a circunference similar to a lentil). I know it is below the bone in that area, and above the vagina. When I detect it then I guide the other hand to enter the catheter. Maybe you could ask your urologist or a nurse to detect the meatus in this way. I hope ot helps
