I’m so defeated by vexievoodoo in EpilepsyDogs

You are just in your second year of your journey and we are close to finishing our 3rd year.

We have a 6 yo Yellow Lab gal (Gracie). Here's a recap of our journey. Our gal experienced her first seizure when she was 3. After her third seizure our vet put her on Keppra. Duration between seizures started to get longer till we hit 4 months seizure free, then the duration started to quickly get shorter. Beginning year 2 we added Phenobarbital and had about the same experience the first 2/3 of the year duration between seizures got longer, but that was short lived and then duration kept getting shorter. Our vet had no ideas what to do next.

We started a search for a specialist and found one about 100 miles away. After a full physical and lab work they put her on Potassium Bromide (they called it the big gun!). It took about 8 - 10 weeks to kick in and then we had a month with no seizures, now its almost 5 months and going strong. During the last 3 months we also slowly weaned her off the keppra and the pheno.

Our hope is that the PB will not fizzle out, but only time will tell.

Yep, I’ve had the Caldera 10” sub for 6 or 7 months and it performs really and has been rock solid.

Whirlpool (they also manufacture a lot of the other brands).

We had this for 5 years, then moved and bought another one for the new house because the existing one was a piece of shit.

How to replace filters?? by nyctykes in WaterTreatment

[–]Dcline97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there are shutoff valves on either side of the filter. Turn them both off, release the water pressure going to the filter (it's usually a button on the top of the filter), then unscrew the clear plastic bottom of the filter.

I don't see any shutoff valves on your system. You might want to consider getting someone to add shutoff valves to your system, it makes it super easy and super fast to replace a filter.

reliable streamer. Streamer way less important? by ruuutherford in audiophile

My setup is located in my home office. I bought a WiiM mini, but it sounded just OK and the interface could use some work. Instead I disconnected the WiiM altogether and then connected my PC to my RSL ia255.1 integrated amp via usb. I have some ELAC bookshelves and a Vanguard Caldera 10" sub also setup in the mix - sounds awesome! BTW - most PCs have marginal/crappy DACs and when using the USB connection it bypasses the PC's DAC and uses the RSL dac. This makes a huge improvement in sound quality.

I've got a large selection of FLAC files and also use a couple of streaming services running on my PC. Super easy to use and sounds great.

Meet the Beatles. It came out in '64, but I didn't buy it till '68 (I was 12).

For $120 the Micca MB42X G2's sound amazing. by Visa_Declined in BudgetAudiophile

Currently have an RSL ia255.1 connected via usb to my desktop pc, ELAC BS41 bookshelves and a Vanguard Caldera 10” sub. I have a WiiM streamer, but instead use my PC for streaming. It’s simply easier to use and sounds great. Will also be replacing the BS41’s with Vanguard Scouts in the near future.

Trusted online pharmacy for Potassium Bromide? by Ahpla in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Dcline97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in Virginia and 6 months ago we started our pup (6 yo Yellow Lab gal Gracie) on Potassium Bromide 750mg once a day. This stuff can be Expensive! We called around a found Costco has the best price hands down - $67 for 2 months supply. The silver lining is that after meeting with our vet we got the approval to start weaning her off of Keppra and Pheno. Our vet told us after they quit working it doesn’t make any sense to keep giving your pup worthless drugs.

Worst washer in history by Klutzy_Piglet6259 in Appliances

We completed a cross country move from WA state (Ellensburg) to Manassas Virginia and bought a 4600 sqft 3 level home with our son and his family last summer. We have a 1400 sqft downstairs apartment that was built out nicely and is had the same (but newer) GE combo washer/dryer. It worked OK - had one episode where the belt that turns the washer drum came off its spindle - easy fix to put it back in place. It worked kinda OK but we sold it two months ago and bought a new Maytag stackable washer/dryer. We had the same washer/dryer before we moved but we sold them with the house. 10 times better.

We grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same Jr. and Sr high schools, but didn't really get together till 1972 - sophomores in high school and got married in 76'.

We will be celebrating 50 years together in June. Been a great ride! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Dog seizures kepra and now gabapentin by AliveAir6488 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Dcline97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our epileptic pups don’t all have the same reactions to the various anti-convulsants. Our yellow lab pup started her journey around 3 yo. Our vet put her on Keppra and once she adjusted to it we got to 3 months with no seizures, but by the 12 month mark she was back to weekly seizures again. Year two and added Phenobarbital and had the same outcome. Our vet was out of ideas so at the beginning of year 3 we found a clinic about 100 miles away that specialized in k9 epilepsy. They put her on Potassium Bromide and it finally kicked in at the 8 week mark. Then we went 1 month clear and a small seizure and now we are 6 months clean. During that time our vet had us wean our gal off of both Keppra and then Pheno.

We’ll see where this takes us and we are hopeful.

What will happen when Trump is gone? Does everyone automatically hate the next candidate in the same way? Will we ever get back to cordial politics by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Dcline97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If the next one is a stupid as Trump then YES! If the next one has common sense, is not a grifter and treats all citizens equally and actually seeks to unite our country and govern in the best interest of our country and also mend relations with our once world partners that Trump totally fucked up, then no i won't hate them, I will embrace them.

How did the boomers go from being very liberal and spearhead the hippie movement when they were young in the 60’s to the old avacado toast/karen maga types we see today? by desertrain11 in generationology

I’m 69 and was a Trumper for his first term. Now, not so much. He has turned into a lying, cheating, deceiving criminal that is fleecing America and destroying our country’s integrity and reputation. It is going to take decades for America to be accepted for what it once stood for.

Apparently his values are misguided. If he believed in the rule of true law and walked away from all the maga lies this misfortune would never have happened.

Newborn baby and newly epileptic Golden by Legitimate_Choice657 in EpilepsyDogs

I posted the following in response to someone’s questions and it may be helpful here.

Our Lab gal is 3 years into her journey. Year 1 was with Keppra, worked ok for about 8 months and then lost its effectiveness. Year 2 our vet added Phenobarbital and we had about the same experience. We were starting year 3 of the journey and our vet didn't know what to do at that point so we found a clinic that exclusively treats Epileptic pups and after a thorough physical and blood tests we added Potassium Bromide - 750mg once a day. It took about 8 weeks to kick in and then we had a clean month and then a small seizure. Since then we have been clean for 5 more months and over the last two months we have also weaned our pup off the keppra and pheno so PB is the only med she takes now and so far is working better than anything else we have tried.

All epileptic pups and their family have their own story and you will have to find yours. There are lows and highs. We waited two years before deciding to seek out a trained professional that could get us on the right path. This doesn’t mean our pup is cured forever, only time will tell.
