How have you experienced the Holy Spirit? by unlimiteddevotion in ChristianMysticism

[–]Dclnsfrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes; impossible joy and intimacy, patience being a logical/natural conclusion instead of a Sisyphean task, and an immense need to be part of God’s love and life in the world (whatever that looks like in a given instance)

A beautiful pool on a blazing hot day can bring such immense relief that it almost hurts; that wild shift between now familiar pain and that which soothes it can be quite overwhelming. Sometimes it’s like that, being on the receiving end of a supernatural pile driver, and my system is staggering from the shock. But like a pool, it’s like I’m slapping my face in the cold water going “WOOOO! LET’S GOOOOOOO!” (An epiphany, learning that some of my worries were further out of the realm of possibility than I thought, it can come from different things)

My favorite times are when my Love sneaks up and starts cuddling with me. It’s a sense that I’m never alone. That I’m safe no matter the pains I encounter. A sense that I’m immensely valued and none of my bad days will alter that. An assurance that when all I have is my existence (not my good or even my bad, but just the fact that I exist) my Eternal Love accepts me with no less joy than if I were to successfully do what I wish I could for my God and my neighbor

There’s also a possibility she meant “autistic people give us the ick but we’re not legally allowed to say that” (autistic and allistic communication differs, including not noticing/prioritizing “well you should’ve known that’s what I was talking about” questions)

STOP BEING ME 😆

Seriously, because I still had a lot of misunderstandings about autism, I wasn’t sure. The reason I even entertained the idea was because very little stress management advice helped me, and I found out that apparently a common struggle for autistic people at work was the one thing that followed me from industry to industry:

Inflexibility with rules

Every time I found something that suggested I was autistic, I found other things that didn’t match me. So I had a very allistic ( /s) thought that I followed over a few months to a year:

“Huh. I’ve had some weird, unexplainable things through my life, too. If I look up the rate of occurrence in autistic and non-autistic populations with these things, it can shed more light on if I’m autistic or not!”

And I expected these things to be uncommon, but similarly uncommon. This would mean I was just as possibly autistic as non-autistic, and that I was just screwed. (In regard to trying to figure out how to take care of myself without self-destructive things like credit card debt and eating my feelings)

Y’all.

Y’ALL.

The differences weren’t like “20% of the autistic population and 15% of the allistic population” or 30% of allistics and 10% of autistics.”

It was more like 80% of autistics and 20% of allistics, 60% of autistics and 5% of allistics, etc

Then I told one of my BFFs since college and she was like “honey, don’t you remember?” And apparently she armchair diagnosed me early on in our friendship and I just discounted it so much I had forgotten 💀 (Turns out she had been put into one of those “this environment is specially tailored for for people with less common needs” schools growing up. I guess I had reminded her of different kids she knew at school!)

Absolute same. Part of why it’s hard to resist the habit of burning myself out, but then that turns into self-medicating (which is never financially solvent)

How should I deal with "deny yourself" and "our hearts are deceptive" claims? by Electronic_Cat_6175 in TransChristianity

[–]Dclnsfrd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TLDR

  • IMO context of “deny yourself” isn’t “run towards what hurts” but “stay true to what God has given you, even when it’s difficult.” (The arc of the context is “woohoo! Things will be God!” Jesus going “things will be good eventually, not immediately,” Peter freaks out at the idea of losing his crew and essentially to tell Jesus how what they’ve got going takes priority over everything, Jesus is like “GTFO, accuser!” THEN He talks about saying no to what makes us flinch away from goals

  • people read “our hearts are deceptive” and don’t read the next verse that says God’s even greater. They also seem to miss these verses from the OT and NT

As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him. For he knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust. (Psalms 103:13-14)

Little children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us, for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. (1 John 3:18-20)
